Several years ago I cut the stock one to drop the transmission and had a shop do a "temp repair" Well they did it pretty low and I've drug it across many things and it has a few dings in it

So I caught my Y-pipe backing off a rock yesterday. It pulled it down and forward pretty bad. Bad enough to tweak the sh!t out of the springs at the pass side collector and leak, and now it hangs wayy down!

So I have an excuse to cut it off and build or have a new one built.

Lets see pics of how others have done it above the driveshaft or behind the case. Id rather do it over the shaft as it seems easier not having to mess with clearance and fuel lines on the pass side frame rail.

I searched and searched, but most threads had no pics or the links were dead.

Let me go outside and see if I can get a good enough pic with the flash alone, if not i'll get you one tomorrow. This is a 2 1/2" Y pipe then once the pipes come together it is 3" from there on back.

Jesus Christ man, the muffler man who did that Y pipe should be shot dead. Also, I can remove both the trans pan and the convertor cover WITHOUT removing the Y pipe.

Yeah i remember it didn't cost much and got me back on the road. It was quite a bit further back towards the crossmember.

Now it is an issue and not to mention the exhaust leak is annoying!

I figure I can hack something together that will look at least as good as the temp repair :haha:

Cool thanks Scott!

I don't have the crappy tin inspection cover, but I am sure I can get ahold of one. I would like to cross it over there.

I still have the stock manifolds, and don't plan on changing that for now. Just the 2.25 or 2.5 Y-pipe into 3" seems to work fine on my stock motor.

I found this awhile back on another thread it was for a stock TBI truck with manifolds

Just a guess because its a pic but comparing the pipe to the shaft makes me think 2in at most for the pipe size.Looks winky dinky. Is the pipe suposed to be roughted under the shaft? That dont seem right to begin with. You said you want to put something together but why not just get a new ypipe made for the truck?

Factory they ran under, right in front of the crossmember. Mine is still there, but after I put on some ORD shackles, at full droop the driveshaft rubs. Time for something different

That would be mine :D Gives me a ton of clearance. Built that with parts out of the summit catalog and it cost me a little over $100 I believe.

Here is mine currently. I am not too happy with it. When I get some welding skills. I am going to redo it. Hope this helps a little. Its not to inpressive though. I HATE how the pass side pipe goes into the drivers side pipe. I want to change to make it a more smooth transition.

It always surprises me that folks don't put bolt together joints somwhere in the pipes so you can work on it easier.

I had to get my ypipe remade after adding headers, and Scott recommended i do Just that. Got a removable section put in between the ypipe and ct.

and yes some exaust people need to be beet with the vary pipe thay install the wrong way or place. :doah:

I agree, you should see some of the stuff we take off that another exhaust shop installed. It really sickens me sometimes that that stuff would be allowed to leave. Also that the customer doesn't check their work and call them on it.

Most people don't care how the exhaust looks, as long as it sounds cool and has tips coming out, but there is soo much more too it than pipes and mufflers.
