High clearance Y-pipes pics please

friend had a fuel vapor lock problem . found exaust 3" off filter on frame rail. :doah:

and the list goes on . . . . . . . . and on . . . . . . . . . :doah:

Just a guess because its a pic but comparing the pipe to the shaft makes me think 2in at most for the pipe size.Looks winky dinky. Is the pipe suposed to be roughted under the shaft? That dont seem right to begin with. You said you want to put something together but why not just get a new ypipe made for the truck?

Just got out and measured it comes out to 2 1/2.

OOOO blazer stuff that's right. But really, this 4.3 had a stock 1.5" y pipe, just tiny, got smaller the newer they were, and hung down lower than this one. 2"+ no precat = better. Only hope to have my blazer one come out this clean. I like the idea of going back under the engine, but would any crossover steering get in the way? Or new crossmember for the mater?

BUMP
looking for more ideas
I like the idea of hugging the front of the trans pan, might wrap it thought to keep the temps down and make it the pipe removable for trans maintenance.
I like the idea of going clear over to the back of the oil pan too, not sure if the support rods would get in the way though.

Are you running a cat? If not the way I did mine seems to work well. It is very similiar to munepits above, but instead of running a y pipe I ran dual 2.5" pipes into a Magnaflow with a single 3" outlet over the rear axle and out the driver's side. No Y pipe to deal with, and the entire exhaust is contained above the frame rails helping to prevent trail damage. I was able to get the trans and transfer case out without much of an issue when I rebuilt the trans.

Obviously this won't work with a cat system since there wouldn't be room for the cat and muffler, and the cat would be too far back to be effective.

Ok, in that situation obviously mine won't work solely for the cat, the clocking on the TC should have no effect with the room that is there. Unless you run a pair of compact cats you are going to need to use someone elses design. Sorry about that.

for those of you running cats or have emissions to worry about this doesnt apply to them, but wouldnt it just be easier to run true dual and a cross pipe alittle further back in the exhaust instead of tryin to run a y-pipe and have enough room for the drive shafte to droop.

New Y-pipe 70-series Flowmaster

I have to show off the new y-pipe I had made this morning. I have Hedman 69830's with a 700r4 (yes they clear the linkage). 70-series flowmaster with a flowmaster y-collector. The truck has a great sound to it now. Nice and mellow. I can talk to my family now. I'm very happy with the way it sounds.

now the pic whoring begins....

Nice set up. :thumb:

What size pipe and any chance for a video clip to see how it sounds?

So you ran duals to behind the xfer case....interesting.

My ypipe comes RIGHT under/in front of the trans pan.

Yeah, I've seen someone else do it this way. I liked it... so I copied it.

Nothing against this routing, was just thinking out loud. I took direction on routing from Scott. He actually went and talked the shop through where he thought it should go! :waytogo:

I need to take pics of mine. And really, update my "build" thread in general.

Truck has been recently neglected, as its between water ski and snow ski season. Don't need an early winter tow rig....nor do i need 4x4 yet.

Sounds really good garydan, thanks for the video!
