highlift/handyman jacks

Has anyone ever actually used a Hi-Lift or similar jack and some chains to "winch" a vehicle? I'm just curious as to how well that would work and how much effort would be involved. If it's anything like using a comealong, I think I would just look for someone who had a winch.

150' in lava rock winching a sami out, broke 3 u bolts couldn't put any power to the ground or it would just spit the axle out. A long ways from any cell service and a long walk away.

It was very very hard would only do it in an emergency looking back we should have walked out and gotten another truck but we didnt' really know anyone with a winch back in the day
