Highsteer with assist (pics needed)

I’ve had a small fight with high steer for a while, it’s frustrating. If you end up with the tie rod in front of the axle don’t move the axle forward a lot, I’d keep it to about 1.5” at most. I’m at 3” forward and the drag link and tie rod hit each other.

I tried to go reverse high steer with WFO arms but the tie rod hit the leaf springs before it touched the arms. Even if it had fit the tie rod was only a couple of inches away from the oil pan. I firmly believe that @muddybuddy set up was a unicorn.
Did you ever try lift blocks on the arms? Ive heard that may can help, but then it can get closer to oil pan.

WFO Xover-High steer w/PSC hydro asst... ( I did this back in 2006 er 07?)
I'm running a super low lift so it's tight but with WFO helping me make it work = it works awesome
I did have some "self clearing" trail denting to the front of my oil pan but hey, now it's all good :saweet:
I'm using the drag link tied to the tie rod method, works awesome for the low clearance needed for my setup :waytogo:

Burt is your axle moved forward at all?

So you trytierod infront and ran into issues at 1.5”?

I guess at that point your running into issues needing to move steering box or or run reverse cut steering gears?

So with limited uptravel, it just mainly hurt your articulation?

I wouldnt say articulation was “hurt”. It just had more droop and less up travel. Thats driven primarily by resting shackle angle and cycling through articulation.

For example if your resting/ride height shackle angle was straight up and down, you would have minimal (if any) droop, but would have lot of up travel when cycling the suspension. If you had the resting shackle angle completely horizontal (ie: hitting the frame) you would have 0 uptravel and lot of droop. Both extremes, but point is tuning the shackle angle determines the type of articulation you will have. Technically its not all created equal, spring rate and other factors play into it as well.

I did not try any blocks, I would likely have needed 3" blocks per side to clear the springs and I didn't want those (too many stories of the studs breaking) plus with the tie rod just laying on the springs it was really close to the oil pan.

My tie rod is in front and my axle is 3" forward. I jumped straight from stock to 3" forward, I initially thought was only 2" forward but forgot to factor in the B52 brackets being in the 1" forward position. By the time I realized I was at 3" I had already cut the fenders and really liked the tire position / approach angle so I don't want to move it back. Another reason not to change is I'm rubbing the wheel well where it bolts to the firewall so if I move back any that just gets worse.

I guess at that point your running into issues needing to move steering box or or run reverse cut steering gears?

I would love to move my steering box forward any amount but I'm no visionary fabber or even a good welder so I'm hesitant of jumping in to that myself.

Not sure what you mean by "reverse cut steering gears".

I have swapped in an offset TRE at the pitman arm, I don't think it will totally fix everything but it looks like it'll make enough difference that the parts will just kiss rather than full on bind.

Another issue I had is the tie rod hitting a u-bolt on the passenger side at full lock. I was able to fix it by trimming the u-bolt and changing the tall nut to a shorter pinch lock (stover) nut and grinding a shallow recess in the tie rod tube. I have flat u-bolt plates but I noticed yours have the lip all the way around so watch the paint for marks.

Yes it does...better then the oil pan

1.5 inch forward, stock rear 52" springs (about 4" lift), axle not rotated. Needs new longer bumpstops.

You thought about ORD XMember? How much uptravel do you currently get before your draglink kisses your crossmember?

im gonna be running 4” with 37’s. I have ord xmember just havent put it on yet.

Im leaving the stock crossmember for now. Don't want to expose the oilpan. Haven't measured uptravel, but looks like close to 4 inches in the center.

Nope, same spot my D44 was at :waytogo:
I really like your Blazer, those First Gens are soo good looking, I know where one is, and has been sitting for a lone time. lol I just cant work up the guts to ask him if he would sell it. then i don't know how to explain it to my wife if i buy it.

Thanks :waytogo:, just ask you never know.. then after you buy it, ask one more time... for her to accept the fact you "need" it! :pimp: Mental Health and all hehehe :saweet:
