Unfortunately it's hard to warn people about a sale so we usually do get some orders a couple days before the sale that could have been after it started and saved a bit.
Doing a holiday sale always seems like a good way to help with christmas gifts and give everybody a good excuse to get started a bit early on their projects for next spring.
