I have a Holley Carb feeding my eldebrock 2101 which is on a 350 crate motor. The problem I am having is that after cutting the truck off it will seep gas from the rear butterfly shaft onto the intake. It does this when I=it is either hot or cold motor. I adjusted the floats level to below the sight holes and even all the way off on the secondary side. The number on the carb on the choke housing is "8D457-2 1330", what carb is this? I rebuilt the carb with a Holley Trick kit w/ the blue gaskets, float needles, power valve are all new. Any suggestions on what is causing this? Pics at Photobucket. This forum will not let me post URL's. Search Photobucket User name "84k5blazer" to see pics of carb. Thanks.

Ok...no holley guys on here? Maybe I will by a new carb. I have a 84 K5 Blazer with a 350, 2101 eldebrock intake, 7004r trans stock gears with 32's. The 350 has a mild cam in it (unsure what size). Any suggestions for a carb size and brand that would be good for economy and mild performance? I heard eldebrock is a good carb. Feed back please.

Welcome to the forum!! You have to make 15 posts before you can post an URL.

I am not a holley guy, I had a brand new one on an engine before and it was nothing but problems. I, and I'm sure most everyone else would agree. I would put a quadrajet on it. When tuned good they are the best carb you can have.

I am sure someone who knows holley's will chime in soon

The carb is a 600 cfm so the size is about perfect for your application. Im not sure about the gas seeping out of the secondary throttle shaft but it may be caused by worn bushings. If you plan on replacing the carb I would suggest a Edelbrock Off Road Thunder AVS, or a Holley Truck avenger, but remember to stay in the same area of cfm. A 570 or 670 Truck Avenger or the 650 Thunder AVS Off Road.

The only way you can get fuel down the bore to the shaft is high float level or the needle and seat not sealing properly or too high a fuel pressure.Holleys are so simple its scary. The main bodies worp over time and need to be filed flat with a fine cut bastard file on all three surfaces before reassembly also.Your probably overlooking something.

Thanks for your replies, I do feel that it is something easily to fix. It has a mechanical pump, so I guess I start with that to see what my fuel pressure is, then I will replace the needle and seats. Hate to fork out the money on a new carb. I hate it sitting, but don't want it to go up in flames either.

If that is the case then how the hell does it get out on the throttle shaft. Check the bushings. The fuel just doesnt appear out of thin air it has to come from someplace.

There is no fuel in the base plate or main body.Only in the bowls and it get drawn through the meetering block or plate for rear if thats what it has.Worn throtle shaft will only cause vacume leak. All fuel leaks are external except for a blown power valve but that leaks through a vacume port directly into the intake through the base plate no where near the shaft. The only way fuel will seep out the shaft is if it is dripping out the boosters or sloshing out the vents onto the shaft. You dont have to belive me just pick up a holley book or tear a carb down.:wink1:

Ok guys I fixed the problem, went to the store today and bought an Ebelbrock 1406 and adjusted the TV cable, runs great now, . Any body want to buy the Holley carb? I was tired of fooling around with the Holley, they are so tedious. Thanks for all your help with this.
