So I finished rebuilding my first holley carb. Its a 4160 and when I crank the engine over it pours fuel out of the vent tube at the top of the choke tower. Ive double checked my float and valve settings and need help

You have the float adjusted wrong. Good thing with a holley you can do it externally. set them down till they just trickle out the sight plug if you rock the fender.

thanks ill have to check the level again. i thought i had it set right. I did have to replace the front float and I hope I got the spring in right. I got this carb used and had it sitting for a long time. The front float was brass and all bent up so I replaced it with one of the "plastic" ones.

The secondary float adjusted really easy and quick but the primary was different, it took alot of adjustment on the valve before the fuel level changed

it could be the float binding as well, or the needle sticking open?

mechanical fuel pump?

Thanks the help. I got home in daylight today and its nice out so I played with that needle valve more and got it to work finally, I don't know why It was being stubborn. Now I gotta mess accelerator pump spring and the vacuum secondarys, it stumbles when I throttle hard. The spring on the accelerator pump linkage is a bit ugly looking. I'm thinking it may need to be replaced.

I'm not sure how old this carb is. About 10 years I traded an Edelbrock 1406 600cfm manual choke for three holleys, a 600 cfm (1850), 650 double pumper spreadbore (4175) and the one I am using a 750 cfm (4160). The've been sitting on a shelf and decided to play with them. All ever run is quadrajets and 1406 edelbrocks that I had help tuning with. My K10 was always a daily driver and I just had to keep it running, now that I don't daily drive it I thought I would play with it. So far even though its not running proper yet I noticed a huge difference in a trip around the block from the 600cfm 1406 to the 750cfm 4160. The engine is a 355 with 10.5:1 and a mechanical fuel pump. I really like how the holley carbs dissemble and resemble.

make sure there is NO play between the accelerator arm and the plunger arm. May need to change to a more aggressive cam or change squirters to get rid of the dead spot. Work on that first then the vac sec spring.

I'll check for play. What kind of change to the squiters? When the engine is off and I turn the throttle they spray pretty good. I'd like to go a little more aggressive on the cam eventually. Depending on my mood if I want to keep the truck, my plan is to make it a toy/yard hauler.

I got a master rebuild and it came with a bunch of squirters. I just go up a few sizes at a time till it helps the stumble. The stumble has to do with inital hit most times.
