As I am finding that it's hard or next to impossible to find 6.5 exhaust parts in some parts of the USA, and the banks parts are gold plated, I am trying to come up with some ideas for routing that doesn't cost a fortune in money or time.
This pic is from a guy on diesel place who swapped in an nv4500 but also ran his crossover pipe upward.

Knowing mine won't even compress that far and also being there is plenty of room to make it tighter if you wanted seems simple.
Seeing this hummer setup got my ideas part of my brain going.

So knowing that preturbo or st least an assumption based on lots of reading is that the direction of flow isn't a huge deal as shown in any manifold GM has ever made for any turbo system. There is always some drastic change in direction it's almost inevitable with a v8.
Knowing that the stock manifolds rout back and away from the block made me think that a Y pipe might work as a start for the turbo pipe,
Excuse my crappy artist skills,

Here's some pics of what we have to work with.

The crossover should be a slam dunk because there is a lot of area it can go, banks runs it up front. Not ideal because of the rubber in the dampener. IMG_6920.JPG IMG_8154.JPG
I think there is enough space to make at least a 3 inch pipe fit, if not little trimming is required. And once it's above the frame the turbo can go where it fits.

I don't feel so bad after looking at up pipes for the Ford guys. We got it kinda easy..
I didn't even know this existed, duramaxes also have this problem sometimes the turbo won't fit under the hood.
Which means I am gonna figure this out :) muhahahahaha

I have an ATS turbo on my burb and I had a 83 pickup with a Banks turbo.... I like the Banks way of doing it best. He ran the exhaust from the driver's side forward, between the balancer and the pan then up into the turbo. I probably have pictures somewhere if you're interested. The ATS turbo runs under the dust-cover - it gets VERY tight under the starter, to the point that I think you're pretty much forced into a gear reduction starter to maintain safe air space around the starter...

Pics would be awesome!!

Good thing I have the gear reduction starter already..

Straight out the hood

Buy a flapper

Summit sells new Banks crossovers.....clicky

What's nice about the banks setup is it gives lots of room for the downpipe without the crossover infringing. I know on mine with a stock 6.5 setup it's a really tight fit. A 1 inch body lift would probably help a ton giving just that tiny bit of more room.

How much work are you willing to do to make a manifold? Have you looked for a 6.5 hummer manifold? If you ran a driverside on the passenger side it would point forward. Then you could loop the crossover around the front and have them meet right at the turbo. Would be worth looking into.

I looked at the hummer driver side and i actually thought goin under was the better choice but I am going to look more at the front now that you suggested it. And as far as work, I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel.

After looking at the banks style again I can say for certain that once I link the front the exhaust will be right in the way.. so for me I gotta go under the trans.. I can route the DP outside the frame.

That Dmax kit is for the guys that swap turbos a lot. It makes it way easy to do even on a hot engine I guess. Truck pullers that run multiple classes and stuff.

Just dump it right there by the cab mount. Black smoke from under the rocker would be sweet.

I ran mine like that for the first year I had the turbo on it. It sounded cool but was really loud with the window. Worst part was if the window was open and sitting at a light the fumes come right in the cab.

Well then maybe not lol I don't wanna smell like diesel getting into work..
