Holset HE351CW using 6.5 parts and 6.2 longblock

Where did you get the orange blanket/ heat shield for the Banks turbo? I was going to wrap mine with the silver insulation stuff but didn't like the way it fit. My high side a/c line is tight there. I planned to insulate it. But your picture gave me a better option.

You might be surprised what a good mandrel shop can do, and for how little.

I couldn't use the Banks crossover with my ORD high-clearance crossmember and hi-steer setup...I took it to Bob's Muffler in the Bakersfield ghetto and his guys threaded the needle perfectly for me. I was only out $50 and some muttered Mexican insults from the shop flunkies.
 
Does anyone know if you can flip the passenger side manifold? Or will it hit the injector lines??
 
I have the junk exhaust manifold off my 6.2 that I replaced a few months ago,and the blown up 6.2 it came from sitting on an engine stand...tomorrow I'll try to remember to try seeing if it will bolt up "upside down"..

I wondered myself if you could invert the manifold so the pipe outlet sticks "up" at the front ,instead of down at the rear,and still be able to bolt it up to the head..I know on small blocks you can flip the manifolds,truck pullers did it a lot,just ran two pipes up through the hood..
 
Late to the party, so I apologize if I repeat some of the good advice above.

I have the early style Banks manifold - the last Banks part on the truck as a matter of fact - which places the turbo low and forward on the engine. Their later style manifold intended for 88-91 6.2s in the GMT400 platform place the turbo closer to where a factory 6.5 manifold would, though not quite as high.

You could avoid the downpipe clearance challenge altogether and vent your black cloud of power through the hood via a hater pipe.

Well I remembered today to try putting that exhaust manifold on "upside down"...
It will bolt up,that is the good news--the bad news is it completely blocks access to the glow pugs and no way could you plug wires on them,and the exhaust pipe outlet will stick straight out towards the inner fender or tire! (this was the drivers side of the engine )..
 
Maybe if you used long bolts and a spacer between the manifold and head ?..:thinking:...or find some 90 degree glow plugs!..
On second thought--no,there's hardly enough room between the frame rail to get the manifolds on the engine with it installed in the truck,and ditto for the manifold bolts..they will hit the frame rail when you unscrew them,if they were a few threads longer..:doah:

I dont have the passenger side manifold off to try on the drivers side--the outlet on that one comes off at a 45 degree angle roughly,the drivers side dumps straight down..maybe swapping the manifolds side to side or using two passenger side ones would help the pipe flange location problem,but not the glow plug situation...

After what I went through to remove and replace that exhaust manifold on my truck,I wouldn't want to have to remove one every time it needed a new glow plug..I'd probably sell it or put a 350 on it instead!..
