I want to start undercoating my burnt burb project and I'd like to hear what works good, price, ease of use, can it be sprayed, etc. etc. figured I'll get the best info here:D

be careful what you use, all undercoatings are not created equal...

tho I haven't used it in recent years, I always loved 3M's back in the day... it was a white can with green lettering.. but i think they've changed it now... it was real tough and didn't stay tacky, which MANY cheap ones are notorious for.. they end up sucking up dirt...

I got some 3M spray can stuff once that was glorified black spraypaint. Came in a red can. should have know when it was $5 for a Large can. Only 3M product that I havent liked. I'll look and see if I can find the better stuff. Would the spray or roll on bed liner stuff work:dunno:

Alot of them are now a days, Look for 3M schutz undercoating. I have used that before seemed to work well

undercoat/rust protection

Looked into alot of them rubberized, which i sprayed on my 1999 f-350. Ziebart protroleom based, value guard and waxoyl wax based systems. I am going with waxoyl on my 89 blazer.

I looked up the 3M schutz stuff and the applicator. Dosent seem that expensive. I dont know how much a bottle coves but they were $20 a bottle on amazon. Is that stuff tough enough to hold up to gravel roads though. We have a lot of them and I'll be on them quite a bit unfortunetly. Thats why I was asking about bed liner too:dunno: I wanna keep my burb from rotting as long as possible. I'll do more research tonight at work if they leave me alone long enough.

I did the spray on liner under my K5, I love the way it came out, I can't say much about durability so far since it hasn't left the garage yet :doah: :D.
I used the AL's liner kit, as far as I'm concerned it is hands down the best DIY liner on the market. When I sprayed mine the frame was out from under the tub, so doing it on a complete rig would most likely be a chore. I chose to do the liner because I am starting with a rust free truck and hope to keep it that way (at least for as long as possible)

over-kote plus

You know its good if your hands are black for a month.

This is designed as gas tank paint I think, but I redid the whole front end of my camaro 2 years ago now and no signs of wear. I painted control arms, sway bar, knuckles, and something else. Its a brush applied paint but try foam or a roller for a new effect. If done right you can't see strokes.

I've used spray on permatex and like stated it stays sticky and also seems to come off whenever I touch it. I just kept waiting for it to dry with the car in the garage like huh?

I used (rolled on / paint brushed) Herculine bed liner both inside and under my cab... the intent was two fold, sealing/robustness and sound deadening.

To tell you the truth, it is still really dang loud but the seal seems to be holding quite well (no chipping or pealing) however where my heal sits on the cab floor (throttle and brake pivot point) the bedliner wore away very fast...

I pressure washed thoroughly, then applied a product called "rust ender" through a gun and it went on with a creamy thick look. After a few minutes it turns black as it oxidizes the rust. After that stuff dried I applied 2 coats of Rustoleum gloss black. Seems to be holding up good so far, but I also don't drive my K5 in the rain either.
