Saw the post using a shopping cart but I would prefer to fab something up. I have a Miller 135 and a 20 cf bottle that I'd like to make a cart for. I've looked at all the commercial stuff and have some ideas but any other suggestions and/or pics would be appreciated.

Bed frame, a lil plate, some rod, a muffler clamp and casters... Tank support is the scavenged one from the pizz poor HF unit... Made from discarded junk, except for the casters from Home Depot.

I like it. Funny you mention bed frames. I threw out a couple of angle iron bed frame pieces a while back and now I'm kicking myself since I'll have to buy the metal. How come so many of the ones you can buy angle the section where the welder goes? I notice for some reason many of them angle the butt down and face up. Ease of use?

I used a 10 gallon aquarium stand flipped upside down. Added some welds, wheels, and a base for my bottle. It works great, and is the perfect size for my 110 lincoln.

How about being top heavy? Any chance of having your cart turn over with all the weight on the top? I was wondering if that is why some of them put the welder spot lower and angle it, to help with tip overs...

Mine is pretty stable, considering I use a large bottle. Would I do some things differently? Absolutely, but for a cheap cart it works pretty well.

Same- very stable. Don't have a big bottle (yet), but don't foresee any problems. If I do get top heavy, I could always weld on outriggers, disquise it as a rack, and move the casters. When I was measuring this out, I took a comfortable welding height into consideration.

I took a Knack gang box put some big 6" casters on it and then welded up a frame on one side for my welder and tank with 2 outlets built in attached to a 50' extension cord. Gives me a place to put all my welding stuff, consumables leathers grinders etc. and is easy to move it all around:D

I butchered a moving dolly for my welding cart. I also have a Miller 135 and a small bottle. No paint, no bling and no cash outlay. It's not the sexiest thing I've ever built...but one big upside is the rear wheels under the bottle are good size so it easily goes over some pretty rough terrain.

I have my machine tilted up. Keeps me from having to bend down too much to play with the dials while keeping the carts CoG somewhat sane.

I'll snap a pic or two and post em up.

Couple of pic's...

Like I said, nothing special. I didn't even paint it. :haha:

I do like that. I was in Lowes the other day and was eyeballing one of their carts wondering if I could modify it to be a welding cart. Looks like it might work well. Yes, and the more pics the better....

at some point, I'm gonna make one... I bought the standard bs one with my miller 180, it's ok, does the job fine...

main reason i'm gonna make one is I want it to house both the welder AND my plasma cutter... that things a pain, it's all hose... be nice to have a purpose built cart to hold both, the tank, hooks for lines, etc... tray for wire brush, dykes, etc, stuff you use welding... heck, maybe set it up to hold an oxy/acet setup too....

i can get the material for free basically, finding time, eh, it's about #217 on the priority list......

Paul you sound like an old friend of mine that has a barn full of "projects" and a bunch of ideas, and it never gets any emptier...........cept you actually get stuff done...........13

eh, nothing I can help anyone out with.. I have a welder bud who hooks me up...

he's about 65, builds old coupe hotrods for fun, has a freakin sick shop and LOTS N' LOTS of steel... cool dude... I go out and have a beer with him and yak hotrods every couple weeks...

he's got a couple, pretty much, freebie piles for me... :wink1: some stuff he charges me for... 2 x 4, etc....

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't expecting you to ship me stuff in Cali. That is great though that you have a touch with the materials. I think I might scout around though and see if I can find some bed frames tossed out that I could use instead of paying for the metal if possible.
