Homebrew Bumper is Done!

Looks like the tire just touches the gate? If so, are you worried about paint damage or a vibration squeak?

I like how it's centered on a frame rail, which should minimize any bouncing fore/aft. What keeps those side tubes from bending into the body? Have you put a jack on there to simulate using them?

It has about 1/2” between the tire and gate. Pushing it hard won’t let it hit the gate, but I imagine if I slammed it hard enough the bushings might compress enough for contact.

My only thing to help is this piece of triangulation. I would like to tie back to the frame but I don’t see an effective way to do it and keep my body uncut. Haven’t tried a jack, but I imagine this is the weakest part of the design. Maybe later on I’ll add another brace on the top pipe. I should have already, but I was worried it would be too close to the body.

I wanted to do the exact same thing but leave the original bumper and install the tire carrier on my hitch, nicely done.
