About $100 to do this for everything.

Made the tabs from a piece of 1" plate.

Here's a bonus pic of me welding the crap out of my buddy's 10 bolt.

And yes I know there's no front shaft in my truck, no comments about that. /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

2" bore, 8" stroke Eaton agricultural hydro ram with 1" pins on the end.

Tabs were cut with a torch from a hunk of 1" plate I scored from the local scrap yard for free. File fit the holes for a nice tight fit and done.

Beveled the snot out of the plate and welded it with my Hobart 135 amp welder--yep, that's right, a 110 volt wire feed with flux core .030" wire.

Needless to say, MULTIPLE PASSES /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hoses are 3/8" standard pipe thread hydraulic hoses, $9 a piece locally, they're 4' long each.

I used some funny looking crap to hook the 3/8" hoses to the 1/4" NPT holes that WTO drilled and tapped in this box but my pretty fittings are coming in at the local NAPA tomorrow.

Not sure what else to say. It's not 100% home brew as it uses a West Texas Offroad steering box that was drilled/tapped, but if I didn't get a good deal on the box I would have just done it myself, it's cake.

looks good tim /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
Did you get a arc burn from no gloves while welding?

I don't even own a pair of welding gloves, I find it impossible to control the gun with gloves on. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Not sure how anyone can weld with gloves on.

I sure burn myself enough, but I just can't weld with gloves on for $hit.

Only gloves I wear welding is the Mechanix gloves. Need to get in the habit of wearing long sleeve shirts.

I guess I am a wussy, I wear welding gloves and long sleeve shirt when welding, and also when grinding /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif /forums/images/graemlins/weld.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grind.gif

I had the same problem wearing dads welding gloves. I went to exchange some tanks for the torch and tried on about 10 pairs of gloves at Indiana Weld (Indiana Oxygen) and found a pair of mediums that fit perfectly. Also pickuped a free green welding coat thats fire resistant thats I wear while welding. FLASH BURN SUCKS! /forums/images/graemlins/weld.gif

the home brew hydro looks cool /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

I usually actually wear sunblock when I weld. No arc burn and no necessity to wearing gloves.

Maybe it's because I have tiny hands, maybe if I find a really small pair of gloves I can do it.

I would wear my Mechanix gloves, but they don't provide any protection anyway.

they provide flash burn protection thats my main concern. Unless a hunk of molten metal falls on my skin it doens't bother me.

Try TIG. welding gloves , you will hardly even notice you have them on
BTW after talking to proffesional welders who's buddy's are dieing of strange skin cancers after welding for too many years without protection , I would recomend covering up for your health

whats wrong with my nice mig tan on my arms neck hands and face????
i NEVER wear gloves ever, only did when i was forced to at my old job i guess they dident like 12 difderent kinds of acids and carsinogins getting on people whatever

Same here. Day later I always wonder why my skin feels so tight. /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gif

No comments about me welding up a 10 bolt rear axle in a fullsize, only my lack of gloves? /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif
