Hood stiffening?

anythign you can do it stregnthen it will kill you in an accident. even if you hit a tree off road, that hood will come throuhg teh windshield and cut you in half.

Same issue as the strengtheners....they eliminate the weak spot that was DESIGNED into the hook in the first place for safey reasons.

 I'm willing to bet that the tube steel of a roll cage is going to have no problem stopping a slightly-more-rigid-than-stock piece of sheetmetal.

You beat me to it... there are gaps in the hoods of our trucks, made after '74, or something like that, on each side so they will fold there in an accident, to prevent decapitation :eek1: . I learned about it from John (Nevrenuf) when he came up to Hattiesburg. But if you still want to strengthen it, that's where I would start.

Jek, you don't need to babysit me.

Anywho, since I DON'T have a cage, that may be an issue. Maybe supports from side to side...

wait... a K5 without a cage? what are you thinking? ;) :thumb:

now, go brush your teeth, I'll be up to tuck you in in 10 minutes. :tongue1:

I was thinking about this, make some supports that hit the underside of the hood when its closed. Like, either attached to the frame that come up between teh fender and exhaust manifolds, or maybe attached to teh top of the block? depending on how strong that is....

I wouldn't attach it to the engine. I can only imagine what high-speed drumming on a hood from an engine sounds! :haha:

So take your hood off. Slap diamond plate on the hood. Turn it over and remove the stock bracing and replace it with angle iron, u-channel, or maybe just add flat stock to the stock bracing.

Now get a crane to lift the heavy mutha' back into place:D Then you'll need to fab up a brace to use when you want to open the hood. Wouldn't want to be decapitated while just checking the oil would you?:haha: Might need a second spring to help pop the hood when you pull the release.
