EDIT: Problem Solved! See Post 12. Had this problem since before March - so at least 7 months

Some of you may recall a previous thread I started on this topic...

Well, I have a short in my horn/dim circuit. Here's what I've done so far:

1. checked all interior light wiring and switches. When possible, I removed the switch and/or wires from the system, and tried installing a fuse. Each time the fuse blew.

2. removed the horns from the system, the fuse still blew

3. replaced the signal switch and wire ribbon in the steering column. No luck.

Not sure where else to look for the problem. Sure is getting frustrating. I really would like to have a horn and interior lights again.... :(

Ideas?

I think I've decided to hand in my man card and take it to a mechanic. :doah: Not worth the hassle. Local mechanic says he thinks he can find it in an hour and a half. That's $135, which is a lot of money, but at this point it's worth my time.

Did you change your headlight switch? Those can cause all sorts of random dimming issues when they get old/break.

I forget what curcuit the cig lighter is on but I had a dime fall into mine and took me forever and three days to find out what kept blowing the circuit.

Cig lighter is on the same circuit as the interior lighting circuit, might wanna try taking the lighter out of the equation:dunno:

I think the clock and the lights for the radio are on that curcuit too.

Bad door pin.
I had mine dome light tab that holds the bulb in break after changing the bulb out. It was grounding out on the cab. Took about an hour to find it.

Radio is gone (stolen), and wiring is all in good shape despite it being taken. I'll check the dome light real quick and see what happens.

Edit: Not the dome light. Also, I did remove the door pin switches at one time to test them, and it wasn't related to those either.

Did you check the wires going to the rear dome light. They run down under the seal plate on the driver side. Actually down there they go to both lights.

I'm trying to remember where all the wires go, I did have all mine out at the being of my build.:doah:

No bare wire under there from the radio?

AHHHHHHH!!!! I FOUND THE PROBLEM!!!!!!!

   Thanks, CK5!

It WAS the cig lighter! I guess I didn't pull the plug off of it. I remember checking the wire, but the wire looked good. Turns out the plug was melted onto the spade of the cig lighter. The last ditch effort saved me another $135ish. That's awesome! Wish I would've rechecked that before I tore the steering column apart today and replaced the wiring in it. :doah: Oh well.

:woot: :woot: :woot:

I am SO thankful you guys suggested that. I was absolutely certain I'd checked the cig lighter, but decided to check it again since it was a simple thing to do this evening. I surely would not have done it without your suggestion!

Now spend the $135 on a stereo. You really have nothing in there?

Id go nuts.

I'd like to put a stereo back in, and I will someday. But, I like the quiet. I listen to a TON of music, but when I'm driving, I like it quiet for some reason. I'd really like to have a stereo so I can go to the drive in, though. :D
