I'm trying to fix my horn on my 87 k5 and I can't find parts any where. The hot wire that goes from the pad down to the connector in the steering column fell out and I don't know where it is. Does anyone know where I can find the connector in the steering column that has that wire attached? Or should I just try to soldier a new wire in my self?

The wire has a spring loaded end with a round plastic piece with two pins sticking out of it. It goes into a white round socket that should be facing you when looking into the steering column. That white socket is part of the turn signal canceling cam. All one piece.

That wire you are missing can come out of just about any GM car or truck, pre-airbags. I think there were a couple of styles from the 70's to 90's, but in the 80's I think all of them were the same.

Ok thanks. I pretty know what I need now but the plastic white socket loose like its broken. Anyone know where to get one and how much of pain it is to get out? Junk yard is probably my best bet for both of those parts.

As Dorian says, the plastic is all one piece -- see the pix on

One's for tilt column, the other for not. They're $6-8 in the "Help!" section @ the parts house.

Getting to it is exciting if you've not done it before and does involve removing the steering wheel, so you'll need a Chilton's or Hayne's manual, and a steering wheel remover tool:

for example. I do recommend having the manual if you've not done it before.

Like the other guy's said it not to bad just need part, manual, puller and about 30 mins to do it. Just make sure you install in right side up cause previous owner screwed mine up and i had to figure it out like rest of stuff he monkey with on my K5. Brandon

Yup that looks like the part I need thanks again guys. I need to pull the steering wheel anyway to install a new multi function switch for the wipers, turn signals, etc.
