I got a great deal on a HornBlasters train horn, a coworker purchased it 6 mos. ago and never installed it, heck, he never removed it from the box:eek1: I am installing it tomorrow, will post pics. It is the Conductors special model 232. Always wanted one just couldn't bring myself to spend $500+:doah:

Damn I want one, just to scare the dumbass kids. They think that they are so cool, not walking on the sidewalk, the walk in the middle of the street. Ya that will teach them to go play in traffic!

Nice! that rocks! I like where you mounted it. Is that a 4 chime setup? (looks like it)

I have a Nathan P3 on my 2002 GMC truck. Picked it up off Craigslist around four years ago for $100! Score! :woot:

Are those legal? Sorry for messing up your thread, but I wish there were big fines (or worse) for putting train horns on passenger vehicles.

You democrat! :D

On a more serious note, I'm not a big fan of everything being illegal, I like freedom. I think it's cool that they put those on there. However, I agree with blue that there is a time and a place where they can be used, and many places where they should not be used. As long as you are responsible with the thing, have fun!

:eek1:

OK, I guess it did sound legalistic.:doah: I guess my real question is what is the right time and place? All I hear about is people blowing them in town and causing hazards.

Don't worry I'm just tootin' your horn. And yeah, sounding them in town is definitely not the right place to do it.

It's also illegal, even for semi trucks to do it, that's why they call them "highway horns" and the others "city horns"

Legal question is the first and most common question I get asked.

I got nailed last year using it at the wrong time next to a buddy on the highway. I didn't see an unmarked cop. Cop pulled me over, and loved it! Wanted to know all about it - laughed the whole time that he was writing out my $160 ticket. He busted me for noise ordinance (not supposed to be able to hear an amplified noise more than 50' away from vehicle) My bro-in-law (also a cop in different city) wanted me to fight it - as I did not break that statute - (horn is not "amplified") Oregon does have a law regarding air horns on vehicle below a certain GVW - which my truck does not meet. So I opted not to fight the ticket and sucked it up and paid it -

I was in the wrong after all As I figured it, $160 was small price to pay for all the fun I've had with it.

As with anything, if you act like an ass at inappropriate times you are more likely to get nailed. The longer I've had it the less I use it - especially after the ticket. It's come in handy a few times on the freeway when some dumbass is doing his thing to close to me.

It's fun to tailgate with at football games.

Mine is hooked to my alarm and also the panic button on my remote. It's great for scaring coworkers who can laugh it off. Not the ones that won't. I have to admit I've got myself more times than I'd care to admit accidentally bumping my key fob at the wrong time!

It is a blast though - literally

cool Jeremy....I love loud horns....I had some boat horns on my 85, with a small compressor, but it sounded better with an 125# air tank boosted source.

note to self, wear earplugs around Jeremy's truck....

Actual horns off a locomotive are even LOUDER than that:eek1: They are inthe 150db range. huge differance. they are Very illegal too. but if used right deffinately fun. the ones my uncle steve put on his semi nearly deffened him. he took them off after the law got ahold of him and he got sick of his ears ringing nonstop from just afew uses.
