What is correct for hose clamps, reuse or replace?

I am getting ready to drop my engine in and would like know what is the best way. I have always reused good looking ones and replaced ones that look so-so.

Ive done the same thing, if it looks ok, or I know its been on <2yrs or so I reuse it. If its a gummed up factory squeeze type original, or one of those stupid ones with the flat thumb screw looking thing, replace it.

Just check the slots (threads) in the band, and make sure the body isn't spreading. And I believe they only need like 20 in lb tightening force on them.
Just throw the factory tower band clamps away. I use stainless Breeze clamps mostly.

Thanks for the replies. I will reuse ones that look to be "like new" condition and replace all others.

What are tower band clamps?

I'm guessing damn ones you squeeze the tabs with pliers to release.
Or try to cut off with a dremmel like a dumba$s and realize that you no longer have ANY means of releasing the tension on w/o said tabs:doah:

I'd rather use the factory squezee type than these. They just never seem to be the same once you take the tension off for the first time.

Hm. Guess i was wrong. Never seen those, but from the looks, hope i never do!

Speaking of the factory ones with the ears, I assume that you folks all know about the tool for removing those, right?

I fought them for years, then one day I was doing some computer work in a friend's auto shop, and he whipped out what I thought was a flexible grabber tool.
It wasn't. He hooked it over the hose clamp, squeezed the handle until it locked, and just slid the clamp down the hose.

About two days later, I chased down a Snap-On truck and forced him to sell me one<G>.
I love those clamps now.
Although, I replace them with the stainless steel screw type if they look weak.

J.

Edit, here is a link to the one I got. I know its expensive, and I have since found the exact same one for less money.
But I swear, I considered it worth the money the first time I used it.

And every time since, I smile when I use it. Its the second most satisfying tool I own.......
