Hotwire a 6.2l diesel?

UPDATED:

OK.. I think I found the fuel Shutoff switch.. and I put a test light on it and am getting power...

Then I just tried to reach my hand up to the Starter solenoid S terminal.. and I got electrocuted! Zoww! Sparks!



So.. power to main solenoid -- glow plugs...

Power to fuel shutoff switch.. right

power to Starter solenoid right?

So what goes on here? Why no start?


Do I need to hotwire it from inside?

Damn man that sucks I have seen/heard about peoples truck getting broke in to but never stealing the alarm that was ment to help prevent the break in in the 1st place

I know.. I think I know who did it too... but I don't know what I can do about it.

It sucks to have some no good theif steal what you have worked hard to come by in the 1st place... I had a truck tool box and all the contents worth about $5000 bucks stole a few years back so I know how it feels I would have liked to have caught them in the progress of stealing it but then I wouldn't have to tell the story because you might have already heard about it on the news

Wow.. that must have been some serious set of tools.. pneumatic tools?

I had a $5,000 motorcycle stolen.. without full coverage insurance too. Talk about heartbreak.

All the technology we have now and we still can't stop the thieves..

I went to a car stereo installers message board and asked them about it.. this was the response I got..

The alarm had either an internal or external Starter Kill relay that interrupted the starter wire. From what you have said, since an external relay does not interrupt the wire unless it receives a Ground When Armed input from the alarm brain and in it's at-rest position would leave the starter wire connected, I would assume that your alarm had a built-in Starter Kill. You will have two heavier gauge wires (12 or 14) from the alarm going to two ends of a YELLOW or PURPLE 12 gauge wire in the ignition harness. you will just need to connect these two together and your truck should start fine.

I think I might be able to see the wires he is speaking of in those pictures. So hopefully it's that simple...
 
I have been talking to him more and the way he describes it is that there is a yellow or purple wire in that harness that was cut and had that big purple wire and the big yellow wire with the white end connected splice on the end of each part of the split wire. So I just need to go in that harness and find the original wire and reconnect it and it should start fine. :D And hopefully my truck doesn't have any other problems.... :/
 
Ok, here is what ya need to do to hotwire it from inside.

If your fuel cutoff solenoid is getting power, along with the glowplugs (check at the glow plugs, not just the relay) then turn your key to the on position, and apply 12 volts of power to that cut purple wire. Your truck should then crank over if the purple wire hasn't been cut anywhere else. If you want to fix that connection right away, that wire goes to a switch on the top of the column tube, right at the base, you should see the cut wire right there. It'll be a pain in the butt to solder, but its worth it to have your park neutral switch working correctly. If this does not work, follow that purple wire until it is either cut again, or goes into a relay. Energize that relay first, and then the circuit should be good to go to energize the starter solenoid.

Do yourself a favour and pull out all of the old alarm wiring, and isolate the stereo wiring so you can fix all of the damage that was done. That thick bunch of cut wires scares me though, as that may have had something to do with your glow plug controller...
 
hey i might be coming to SD this Fri or Sat , i have a cucv that i am going to junk , do you want the wiring harness ? it will probly be different cuz it is military and
no a/c stereo etc but ill remove it and bring it if you want -Andy :o

Let me see if this fixes it and if it does it should be ok. I need to get a wire connector from the parts store in a few minutes then I'll check it.

I think if this fix works I should be ok until I can afford a new harness. But hopefully this works! :D

I'm not sure if I will need it.

If I can fix it this way I would rather just leave the harness I have in there..

But... I tried to do what the guy said and it didn't work.. so I posted him a message and am waiting to see what he says now.

What is the name of the stereo board ?

I have a few stereo questions I need to ask but haven't found any active boards.. The ones I have found seemed to be kinda slow with not many people on them..
 
I got it started!!!

I connected the thick yellow wire and the thick purple wire and it worked! The starter turned over.. and after spinning 3 or 4 times for abotu 5 seconds each and with a little spritz of WD40 it started right up and is running strong!!!!! :eek1: :eek1: :eek1:

Hopefully I can get my truck to the point where I feel safe running it without it dying out there somewhere. :laugh:

I lived in the Mira Mesa area and the North County Area here in san diego.. Also in Sacramento Claiforni for a couple years.

My other vehicle is a 93 CBR600 Honda -- street bike

Is it mostly all desert stuff around here.. or are there any forest areas as well?
