how bad is your rust...

Inner left front fender, both corners behind the doors, rear fenders just before bumper (surface), area where right rear tail light mounts, rear gate pan (frame) where the tail gate mounts (failed inspection).
Under neath undercoating was flaking, once off, rust under neath, wire wheeled it and treated/undercoated it.

73 and it's got no rust at all. I looked at quite a few before I bought this one and they were all rusted. So I jumped on this one for $2800. Now I'm rustless and topless.
Sorry.

RUGERS & K5 BOWTIES

89GAK5 - I needed to have my whole tailgate window replaced (don't ask - long and embarrassing story). Since an auto glass company was doing the window, they needed to re-do all the rails, etc. and since it was an insurance job, it cost me nothing. If I had to pay, it would've been around $190, including the glass. It took them about an hour to do the whole job, but those guys do that sort of thing all day. It could take you longer. Hope this helps.

With my 79 there is no more rust, finally!!!! It took the better part of the year but a complete frame off restoration is just about done. Lets see, a new front fender and a door, cut out all the rusty sheet metal (and there was a lot) and MIG welded all new repair panels, stripped all the paint and sandblasted everything. The top went on today. The hood and the tailgate are ready for paint. Just two weeks away from the final rollout and just in time for archery season. Total cost $1.47 per pound! Now hopefully my wife won't find out how much a K5 weighs.
One other thing, found out the source of the main interior water leak, some one had drilled a hole in the center of the top to mount a CB antenna in then pulled it out.

I have a 1979 K5.
Drivers side floor is almost non existant.
Passenger side is halfway there.
Bed area is full of rust.
Took the tailgate off last weekend without removing hinges, they weren't attached to anything.

The Rust Bucket

Not even one spot. Its a Nevada truck no rust here. Always garaged. Never ran hard and put away wet!

I gotta replace the right front fender. Also, to correct a couple of other rust spots, I plan on cutting out the fenders and installing some sort of cut out fender flares, but I would like to see some pictures of them installed before I start cutting. Anyone know where I could see some?

If you don't get out of the way, I WILL Run you over!!

I dont mean to brag but I have an 88 that is totally,TOTALLY free of rust. It still has the original paint. The biggest problem I have is a cracked dash and the factory radio. Sorry guys, that was my one moment of glory.

Have you driven OVER a Ford lately?

Man, I feel lucky. My 79 had (past tense) rust only on the sill plate where you step into the truck. And this was due to the d@%n JC Whitney plastic sill plates put in for looks, trapping water under them. Pulled them off and almost had a heart attack. Took a lot of grinding and wire wheeling to clean them up, my advice - DON'T EVER USE SILL PLATE COVERS.

If I would get rid of the rust on my cars, there would be none at all. I've got a Blazer from PA and a 75 Firebird that I am restoring. My Blazer has no rear quarter panels anymore(just sheetmetal and BONDO), and the rocker panel on the pass. side just fell off. My Firebird is a rust bucket. The floorboards were GONE, the gas tank had holes in it, and the only thing holding the rear quarter on was a 2" piece by the trunk. Every panel on the car has a rust hole in it. After I replaced the gas tank, I started the car and all these little drips of gas started coming out of the fuel lines - they were gone too. I think that if fiberglass could rust, that would be gone too!

ok heres my story..got it for 75 bucks....whole tailpan gone and both corners of the rear floor gone...front is rotting out..well just about the whole floor..you get the picture and probobly know..but my rockers are actually ok..and i need new front fender weels..and thats it..mostly just my floor needs replacing...but i got a new rust free tailgate with it! /forums/images/icons/grin.gif ...that alone is worth like 200 if you bought it new...

Just found some surface rust til I started grinding......
Ha Ha Ha, so far new inner and outer rockers, floor patches, side floor extensions, rear floor extension, inner b pillars rear floor patches, rear tailpan, four months of weekends and the end is almost in sight. Check out the pictures.

When I first got my 75', the thing was nothing but rust. Front cab mounts rusted to almost none, front cab mount support, samething. The front floor pans on pass and driverside had a 1" gap from the rockerpanel, meaning, you can see the ground from the inside. The rear of the bed was rusted so bad, only one tailgate hinge supports my tailgate now(need to fix that soon). Holes everywhere in the bed. Pretty much it was a POS. After months of sweat and tears and blood, it finally became road worthy. Man I hated those months.

You still have the 75 Boss? Thought you sold it when you got the 90.

had driver side floor cut out and replaced.... had same problem... inch gap between what was left of rocker and floor pan. rear of rocker had completely rotted off the rear quarter, support just past the rocker and before rear quarter had rotted off from body. passenger side rocker is rotting through in rear, have to get to it soon (before winter comes). tail pan is rotted really bad, passenger side of tailpain is cracked all the way through just on the inside before the tailgate bolts in... tailgate slams down on passenger side at slight changes in the pavement. passenger side body mount in middle of bed is completely visible and has no floor actually attached to it whatsover..... bed and tailpan being completely cut out and replaced next week /forums/images/icons/grin.gif /forums/images/icons/grin.gif front inner wheel wells are rotted as well...... i hate body rot /forums/images/icons/mad.gif .... i coulda got better axles and bigger tires and a body lift for what this will all cost.... but hey it'll be solid after

yep i'm in vegas and i'm rust free too. /forums/images/icons/grin.gif
