how bad is your rust...

Everything is rusted on mine except the top and glass. At least something on the truck is still in one piece. One less thing to replace down the road.

My rockers and cab corners were completely gone, so I fixed it with some fiberglass and expanding foam (DON'T use triple expanding, because I did and it blew apart my rockers and cab). The back of one fender was gone, but I took care of that when I trimmed my fenders. The floorboard has a few quarter sized hole in it, but its still structurally sound. My bed is rusted out pretty bad, but the previous owner welded in 3/16" plate on the entire bed floor, so its super stout now.

its funny cause the owner before me put new front fenders on and fixed the exterior of the truck, painted it, painted the inside bedrails, inside the cab, under the carpet was the only sheetmetal that didnt see the paint, so it looks great!
then you pull up the carpet, see that one body mount has broken thru, the whole part that connects the rear and front floor pan is a new ghetto style fix with crappy welds...
the frame has one good chunk out of it where the transfer case crossmember broke thru its original mounting points, and i'm pretty sure if i tried to tow something, i'd not only lose the hitch, but the gas tank and pretty much the whole frame from the rear wheels back...

however the 305 must have leaked from the factory, cause i swear there isnt a speck of rust from the front seats forward....god bless that coat of oil that kept it new!

Two new front fenders, two new doors, and a new driver's rocker. Core support and inner wheelwells off an 89 Jimmy. Welded a new floor in out of an old fender. Welded in a new driver's side rear box corner out of another vehicle.

There ain't no rust now.

Just like someone else said, if it wasn't for the leaky 305 and NP208 even more would be rotted out. Between the frame rails looks brand new.

Oh, and did I mention that I beat 19lbs of rust off the frame with a hammer?

Michigan is best known for the Great Lakes and vehicle genocide.

yea the tranny tunnel and around there never sees to much salt at crap mostly cuase the tranny/T-Case is blocking it a lot..that part does not get to damaged..thats like that in my 84..the floors on the outer sides of the frame are total sh*t..but in between the frame rails its great... /forums/images/icons/smirk.gif

I have a spot in the tunnel where the oil from the leaky valve covers didn't coat it and where the transfer case didn't mist it that has some light rust. But yeah, the driver's side was completely wasted on my truck. The passenger side wasn't bad, no holes. But I cut out the cab corner anyway.

yeap ill be doing my floors soon..im all ready and pumped up for it!! ganna get this crap done! i need a sawzall though..probobly will rent a welder..going to gut the whole inside and get the floor done then rhino line it ..and just put the seats and console back in..no carpet side panals or that stuff..nice and bare! so when i go mudding i can basicly hose the floor right out! /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

Be prepared for toasty feet. I stripped my floor out, put some rattle can bedliner (plasti-cote brand, not dupli-color) on the floor, and then put the vinyl floor mat back in. My feet get kind of warm and it's pretty uncomfortable to drive barefoot.

If I ever get another truck that is for wheelin' only I'm going to run a bare floor so I can hose it out too. The funny thing is that these trucks are supposed to be able to be hosed out. They probably are when they were new because mine had tons of sealer around it but the vinyl itself is ripped.
