The earlier build sheets did not always get all of the paint code. Mid 90's and later seemed to be OK.

Yes! You called it....it's the Lt French Blue Poly WA-9264 (4146)

You should be able to get that online or the local DuPont Auto Paint dealer should be able to cross reference it. They can even put it in a rattle can for you.

Dang thanks everybody! I wonder how much it would cost to have a few rattle cans filled of it? I just need enough to do the roof.

I am not sure what your final goal is....do you just want to hide that top or are you planning to repaint the whole thing?

Either way, you gotta get that rust off there and that means taking it down to the metal...

Yep. Plan is to just paint the roof for the time being sense It's the worst, most embarrassing part of the truck. So if I can get it looking better then the rest of the truck can wait until I paint it next year. And yes, I know it will have to go down to the metal.

I don't know how much the paint cans are online, but just for reference, the one I bought to color test when I painted my glovebox lid cost $17 for 8.6 oz (looks like a standard can)
It's a bit expensive, but it's not enamel, it's the real Urethane paint.

But, it still will not harden like two stage sprayed out of paint gun....BUT, he told me that they sell it in a can that has the hardener in a "bladder" that you break and you have only a certain amount of time to spray it on.

That would harden a lot better than the Colormatch paint, but if you plan the sand it down and redo it soon it may not matter to you.

I'm going to work on a design that converts one of these automatic car washes into a "drive through sanding unit"....replace the brushes with big sanding drums...just put your money in and drive in....
Squirts your truck down with denatured alcohol....
then hits you with 80 grit, followed by 220.
Then the Ryoken Green primer spritz....
Then a big giant 3M Maroon Scotch pad lightly scuffs the entire surface...
Then the 2K Buff Primer Spray
Twelve illegal immigrants then quickly block the entire truck...
Then the "Paul Michael Glazer" Starsky compounder
Followed by a 400 grit mini sand storm
Then out the other side with a big Tack Cloth pat and ready for the Paint Wash :haha:

As the possibliity of paint looms in my future, I got to wondering more about the paint codes. Should i be concerned that in the sales brochure its called Smoke Blue Metallic, but in the PPG chip book its Light French Blue Poly?

My paint color is known by many names..."Yellow Gold" and "Sunset Gold" for example. The same paint colors would be given different names...and codes...
If I remember correctly with PPG / Ditzler I found that Chevy, GMC and Dodge used the same color and they all had their own name for it in the brochures but the Ditzler code was the same.
