how can i get more power from my 454?

Is that yours?

Lol NO! I am all about doing things redneck style but I think an engine needs to be installed before starting it mine is resting comfortably in my jimmy. it's still not a driver as I just found out that the pump seal went out on my transmission so it's got to come out now. But hey I got it started finally

Well that's great news and bad. I didn't want to say anything about the video until I knew for sure, that made me cringe! I hate to hear it's got to come back out but better now than later.

At least it's just the transmission so I don't have to pull the motor and do all that. Transmissions typically go fast.

Let me tell you I am beyond ready to have this back on the road!

Steady progress. Are you just going to put in new seals or taking it in for an update?

I tried to do the main seal but think I messed it up going in. I'm going to see what GT says when he sees it. If there are worth while updates I'll do them if not I'm getting a programmer for my other car :)

Does anyone know a part number for the transmission throttle/kick down cable for my 700r4 to carburetor on a 454? That's the last part I need then I can get my pig back on the road

It is a TV cable not a kick down, and make sure it is adjusted properly before you drive it, even a block, because it will cook the trans pretty fast. It tells the trans how much fluid pressure to run.

I am not sure they ever put a 700R4 behind a 454 so may have use one from a 350. Would think that it would work fine though.

Yeah the last one had was made by a transmission place locally and I broke it taking out the transmission. The one for the 350 tends to be a little short.

Part numbers for Pioneer cables that should work are CA1980, and CA1981.
They are both adjustable but use different connections on the carb side.

Sweet thanks! Is that a local part number or something I need to order?

Update: today I found a little free time and decided to tinker with the truck. I started adjusting the valves and like magic the truck started to run better. All my valves were so off.... I then decided to start the install on the transmission and t-case, With just a floor jack and a bunch of wood i was able to get it lined up. Now they are attached to the engine. Progress is being made I'm thrilled to find out that my valves were a bunch of the problem.

She's pretty much put back together. I need to find a TV cable that fits and it will be rolling around again :)

Turns out my cam died and contaminated my bearings. ... time to start over... fml

Bummer! Seen it happen a few times. If you have the cash, a hydraulic roller cam will make more power in the same RPM range and almost eliminate the cam going flat (unless a lifter locks up, rare).

Also, if you want more power, ditch that 770 truck avenger. There are no high speed air bleeds and it throws the fuel curve off, makes it rich at high end and lean at low end and there is no tuning that out without a different carb. Yes, it will idle on an incline, but you sacrifice performance at most every other time just so it will idle on an incline.

Also, I didn't read the whole thread, just the first few posts and the last page. So if I missed something and my advice is too late, sorry.
