It would be cheaper than buying the whole cover.

I think the outer rings are around 25 each from kurt and I could do the other part out of some scrap steel.

Then the hardware would be about 10 bucks for grade 8

I've wondered the same thing. :dunno: That's the style I'll be using on both axles (assuming the front fits with the big tie rod).

I would have punched a hole through through the stock cover, even with a ring like that.

All depends on what you need I suppose.

can't touch Kert's Razorbacks imo.... pricey, but super stout and pretty sick looking....

Is my Jethrobuilt a collectors item? :haha:

Anyway, Kert's DIY ones are great for the guy with a welder, but without cutting ability... otherwise, you buy off the shelf.

I like my Jethrobuilt covers too.
Never going to brake them and being able to weld things to them is great :D

I thought for a minute that was the rear diff, and it was some sort of farm attachment, like a seed spreader :haha:

I think I'll just order the solid diff covers for 65 each

I'm trying to make my money go as far as I can on my project

I'd definitely love to have those razorback covers though

Well it is not very beautiful but that protection will never brake ;)
I have tried :p:

Whaddya mean it's not beautiful? It's painted... what more could you ask for? =))

Looks good, and yeah, you oughta be able to plow through anything up to a small Asian import car or Third World country with that.

making money go as far as you can???

wow, glad i didn't need to spend money of aftermarket diff covers, been using the stock ones ever since i got the truck, never had any leaks or problems with it, and it did see rock crawling, the body says so... :D

I peeled my rear diff cover on the lower left corner last time I went to Tuttle. I would like to put on aftermarket diff covers now, to prevent that from happening again. You guys that never break anything must be really easy on your trucks.

So I am irresponsible because a rock caught the edge of my OEM stamped rocker cover and peeled it back enough to disturb the seal???

Okay . . . . . . . .

yeah, not going there dude,

i am mearly saying most of the time, people usually break sh!t because of the way they are driving or treating their rigs, i didn't say anything about your diff cover, yes it does happen, not denying that, but in reality, how often,,,

yeak, ok, i guess i'm a pussy when it comes to crawling over the rocks in a 7000lb vehicle then, and yes i have broken stuff, hell been driving the truck for the past 5 or so years with a 10 bolt front setup, and JUST recently broke a front driveshaft and running 35's, so i guess i was doing SOMETHING right those past several years.

maybe try modding your rear cover lip to where it doesn't hang down below the rear diff housing, nothing to catch on, it won't rip away from the housing. i did this with mine, ans again, never had any issues with the rear diff, and as far as the front diff is concerned, if you've ever had it off, you would realize it is actually pretty thick steel, so IMO, if you put a hole in that cover, you must have been moving at a pretty good rate of speed to do it and most likely came to a sudden stop.

I never said anything about the front diff cover. Which of course I have had off. The one on my Dana 60 in my K30 comes back from Kansas covered in rock chalk. It has acted as a sledge hammer and not failed me yet.

I just pulled my rear cover off and beat it back straight with a hammer when I peeled it back. I am not too worried about it, but I can see where an aftermarket diff cover would be cheap insurance.

and that ladies and gentlemen is the name of the game. Its not that you cant wheel without it. but its better to buy it and not need it, than be 50 miles out in the mud and woods with a ripped open diff cover saying.. .man... i shoulda got one of them thar things :)
