I didn't read the whole post but here's what I'd do if:
1. you aren't reusing the pitman arm - take a grinder to the pitman arm and grind a slit the lenght of the sector shaft, then just stick a punch in there and whack it with a hammer, your done, it'll come off.
2. your reusing the pitman arm but not the box - heat the heck out of the pitman arm at the shaft and use a pitman arm puller to get it off.
3. You want to keep both and reuse them - get a pickle fork and put it inbetween the pitman arm and the tie rod end, hit it with a hammer and it will pop loose from the pitman arm
4. If your replacing your "C" arm - Get some new cone washers, I get them from the stealership, because you will destroy them getting the arm off. Take a chisel and a hammer and you'll need to try and pop them out of the arm to get the arm to come out. I had a arm on there so hard one time that I literally beat the living daylights out of it with a sledge hammer to get it to come off.
You'll need a pitman arm puller, rent one because most likely you'll end up breakin it the first time you try this. I never have but I know it happens alot.
Any type of puller other than a pitman arm puller probably wont work, it'll probably pop off easily or break easily.
