How do i get the stupid ignition lock cylinder out?

pull the wheel, the lock plate and the signal assembly, on the older trucks there is a small flat tab about 1/2" long that needs to be pushed down while pulling the lock cylinder out. one nice thing about the older ones is you can put it all together and then just slide the lock in there.

the new ones have a small bolt hold it in.

Ok i have the old style one then casue it does not have a bolt so where is the tab and what does it look like.? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

its near the rear of the cylinder, it goes perpendicular to the cylinder. actually all you see is a slot, push something in the slot and pull it out.

hmm wiered ok i'll go try that and be back in about 5 minets to tell if it worked or not /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

did you get out? Mine (85) had a screw. BTW, i believe you should have it in the 'on' position to get it out (not to be confused with start) to turn the cylindar. Its a saftey deal, so u have to have the key in to do a swap (theoretically making it hard to steal our gems) Hope it helps. I think my 78 had to be 'on' to get the pin to pop out so i could grab it with plyers.

Well that did it! thanks soooo much for your help! To bad i lost the bearing that suports the shaft closest to the wheel in doing all this /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif So i'll have to do some calling around tommorow to find that(yah good luck right) Any who thanks and thanks again for your help!

i pulled mine out and the balls went everywhere and there are no numbers on it that i seen.

you might have to go to the dealer to get one.

my lock cylinder is meesed up and my tilt column is LOOSE so I have a new tilt wheel with key I'm putting in /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

You can get a ignition rack kit at the dealer. Its not too much money. Comes with the rack, both the bearings for the tilt bowl, the spring and the little plastic thingy that meshes with the rack. I'll look around for my invoice if you'd like.
