i just got a 81 parts burb 2wd :( but it has a 14 bolt rear how do i know if its a ff or sf and what gears came stock on it i have a vin#1g8gc26wcbf120615. and i have a stock front axle can i put 3/4 ton shafts in them and do i need to change anything when i do this?

Full floater will have a hub sticking out the side of the axle with 8 bolts holding the shaft in. Also look for the bolts around the snout of the pinion.

VIN wont tell the gears, get the #'s off the stamped tag on the axle or pull the diff. cover and get the #'s off the ring gear.

Prolly a 28 spline 10 bolt, from the shafts out everything between it and a dana 44 is interchangable except the inner shafts....stub shafts are both 19 spline. Inners on a D44 are 30 spline. First figure out what type of front axle it is.

theres no difference in the shafts. they are the same. difference is in the actual hub itself (1inch wider with 3/4 ton) and the lug count.

then can i keep my stock front axles on there with 38's will i damage anything? can i change hubs to match the back?

to go 8 lug you'll have change everythin from the knuckles out.

Damage depends on how you drive. When I go bigger than my 35's I'm puttin my d60 in.

well, Im sure our driving habits are different but so far Ive bown 3 ujoints and trashed 2 sets of axle shafts if that helps. And thats with my 35's. I'm puttin 40's on soon, bye bye 10 bolt.
