Remember, regular heat shrink is not waterproof or air tight. Not a big deal rock climbing in the desert.
But, when working on marine stuff, or pretty much anything in Fl., the two stage stuff is better.
It has an inner liner of hot melt glue. When you go to shrink it, the glue melts first, then when it shrinks the shrinking forces the glue into all the little crooks and crannies of the joint, then oozes out the ends to make a total seal.
Good stuff.
Also, even the heat shrink part is not all equal. The cheaper stuff is fine if there is no abrasion or heat problems.
But you can get different hardnesses of nylon, even Teflon, depending on the use.
