I'm getting ready to install mine, but somebody told to mount it high so I could reach it quickly while racing.

Just one response? Come-on Ryoken, I could of sworn I saw a pic of an Art Carr shifter in your blazer, but your seat was in the way so I couldn't see how you mounted it.

haha, just saw this... :bow::haha:

I try not to pic whore myself out in every thread... :o

Also my mounting is a little more custom than most will bother with... iirc, they do sell a plastic, somewhat raised "console" for it, that "can" be mounted to the floor...

the shifter is sandwiched by the 2 front to back walls on that side.. that is a removable box behind the shifter.. the shift cable runs under that then down thru the floor at the back of the console.. it worked out very well as the sidewalls make the shifter rock solid (lots of surface contact), then just the 2 1/4"-20's coming in from each side..

It has been an awesome console, even unfinished... it's actually out right now so i can reconfigure the bottom (ie, hack it up) so it will fit my new custom trans tunnel...

Thanks for responding. I needed to see as many way there to mount the thing. I look into the plastic console, but I may end up making something. Your custom console serves as storage and place to mount your shifter plus a place for electrical switches. A little bulky for what I'm looking to do, but cool nevertheless.
However, if I wanted something less bulky, I wouldn’t have gotten the Art Carr.

thanks....

yeah, its a pretty simple piece.. easily duplicated out of wood if someone wanted too.. it is a little large and i am changing that somewhat when i mod it to the new floor... i do need a fair amount of room as i mount my cd changer in there too...

mine is mounted to my rollcage:
If you have harness seatbelts... you want to be able to shift even when fully restrained....:D

Well JDNobodi, after looking at other people's example of how to install an Art Carr shifter, I decided to make my own shifter mount.

I made a little platform for mine so i can still use the plastic housing. The cool thing is that it has allowed me to adjust where the shifter is located. I've moved it forward and closer to the seat since this pic:

I found a cheap console at Walmart I will use with the shifter. I don't have it mounted yet.

I think I will copy mrK5, but with more dimple dies

My little thread has been updated and some of these photos I don't remember seeing.
Keep them coming.:waytogo:

Really depends on your interior layout. Mine will be mounted kind of higher due to my Delux Tuffy center consol box being where it will be and not wanting to smash my elbow into the steel edge. That would be painful so why do that to myself. You have to sit in your druck and dry shift like a kid like you're racing. Move your hands/arms where they are comfortable. Then put it in THAT location barring your not banging your hand on anything or elbows. I have a perfect spot for mine, but it's directly mounted to my cage too. Will be rigid nice & rigid/stout, no sloppy mounting for me.

Now getting out of my seat and into passengers seat or back seat and switching drivers will be hell due to cage layout but I'll cross that bridge when I have to, IF I ever have to to fool a copper!!! :D :haha:

Storage, place to mount your shifter, and it's narrow enough for passengers to get around too. Cheap too. ****ing ingenious for a thrasher trail rig.

So far my favorites for various reasons have been Ryoken, boz42, and now Howidy.

When I redo mine, boz42 style fits my needs.
