Got a machined aluminum surface that some jackwad PO used half a tube of ultra black on, instead of a 'thin light coat' as per instructions. What methods have you guys used?

I'd like to preserve this surface as much as possible but it's not as critical as a head gasket.

I've had no luck in the past w/ those stupid plastic scrapers. Thinking about a red scrubbie..

Seen that suggested several times, and may do that. Just a little cautious about nicking the surface.

If you had a die grinder 3M makes some Roloc “wheels” specifically for different materials (aluminum, steel, etc).

Xylene.. I know I've had some out in the garage.. I'll have to look if I still have some.

Appreciate the tips.

Razer blade, got most of the thick stuff. The xylene softened it a bit, which made the steel wool more effective at getting it final clean.
