How Fast?

Hey Deisel4me a highschool friend had an SVT Contour...talk about freaking quick. That baby would go 140 easy...I rode in it that fast once...scared the livin bejesus out of me.

I took a road trip in the Blazer a few years back down the East Coast. I was on the 10 bolts with 33" All Terrains. As soon as I hit I95, it became a speedway. I didn't really feel safe taking the Blazer much faster (speedo read 70 in a 65 zone), and people were passing me like I was standing still. So I sped up to 75, and most people still passed me  .

Somewhere in South Carolina I got hit by radar and pulled over. Trooper told me I was doing 94, and I started to laugh, saying it would never do that. He showed me the radar readout. Still didnt believe him. Down the road I matched speeds with a trucker, called on the CB, and read our speeds. Sure enough, I was about 15 mph off going at a slower speed  .

And, um, about the time dialation and tunnel vision experienced when riding a motorcycle... totally agree. 147 on I81 in PA during deer season in the middle of the night on my 99 R6. Saw a few deer on the side of the road, but I didnt want to slow down to give them any more time to jump out in front of me :D . Ended up selling that bike though :( .

yeah,its suprisingly fast!...

I never expected my lowly Ford Contour to be a "sleeper"!--but I bet it would have given my '69 "goat" a run for its money--maybe even BEAT it!...:eek1: ..the car does feel scary though, its pretty light, and at high speeds its floating more than hugging the road!..and its short wheelbase does not add much stability either...its amazing a small motor like that can be as fast or faster, than the other GM big-blocks I've owned!..:eek1: ..not sure I'd be brave enough to try "burying the needle" in my Contour...:yikes: --it probably would though!.

I'm pretty impressed with the Duratech V6 though..for only having 2.5 liters displacement,170 hp is a pretty amazing amount for such a dinky motor!...what it lacks in low end torque,it makes up for with high RPM's!..
I've read the motor was originally designed by the same people who built the Cosworth vega engines, and Ford bought the rights to it for use in the "Mondeo" european version of the Contour...I love the fact it gets over 30 mph too,if driven normally!...:D

.....but I fear the day I need to fix anything on that car--looks like I'll be walking if anything craps out under THAT hood!..its not like my GM truck, that I could fix just about anything on it,on the side of the road..even a simple fan belt or hose failure would require a tow,and a rental car...you ain't fixing them without a lift, and it takes a few hours, not minutes to fix..:doah:

95 silverado 2wd on 32's. 105mph. Going in and out of 3rd and OD with the govenor screaming.

83 Blazer no speedo,
stock- Never really went over 60
10b's, 3.08's,th350, 38 TSL's(yea i know)- 80:doah:
1 ton, 4.56, 4th tranny, and an engine about to blow its load- 55

Once i get the new engine in ill punch it out on the highway for giggles.:doah:

Always wanted to get me a bike and go at it, but something about 2 wheels and triple digets sounds disturbing.

With the 38.5's I pegged it just over 85 trying to get to the ER one day.

right around 138 in my 73 stepside 2wd with BBC

one little typo!....BFD!!

You all know I meant MILES PER GALLON--not PER HOUR!...geesh!..cant even have one typo here, can ya???:doah: .....

somewhere between 100 and 105, i has 33's , 3.73's and my 700r4, my speedo wasnt calibrated but my buddy behind me paced me

I was gunning for 300kph on the stock bike on a deserted stretch of highway. Didn't get it, close but no cigar.

somewhere around 105. tbi350, 700r4, 308s and 33s. speedo was off something like 10 mph at 85 from what i can remember (speedo has be calibrated right for a while now...but i knew it at the time). Needle pegs a little below what should read 90, which would be closer to 100...i know i let off the gas and it took a couple seconds to actually have the needle "de-peg"

last night me and a friend rode out to the muddrags. he in his tahoe with 36's me in the blazer (fulltime 4x4,33's) and we were crusing along the higway right by each other when he takes off and i catch up and keep with him.. we were passing alot of cars but i didnt know how fast we were goin.cuz my speedo cable is snapped off.so we get there and i ask him what his speedo said. i get this "it said 85 but its slow by about 5"...:eek1: it surprisingly wasnt bad other than the fact that the higway wasnt straight by any means. if it had been it would have been nice. but there is definatley too much wind resistance with these things. on the way home we did the same thing.. but by this time the wind was blowing probably 20mph gusts directly to my side. i still cant believe it went that fast. with the fulltime,no overdrive, and stock gears and a stock engine!!! :eek1: :D hah i dont think he thought it could do it either:wink1:

i hit 103 in my mommy's lincoln towncar, and it had room for more...that baby will run :)

I guess around 125 in my K5. Spedo was pegged but using a speed rpm calculator for my RPMs (5000) it worked out to around that figgure. Was racing a H2. He never could pass me till I decided to back out when we started catching up to some traffic.
My Mustang tops out somewhere around 150.
