How hard is it to change wheel inside a water pump

Do they even sell just that piece? I have always just bought a reman unit.

The shaft is different. Just get the correct water pump.

I have a newer pump with correct wheel. I guess you would press out?

that’s not how it works. Even if you wanted to just change the impeller, you have to remove the whole water pump to do it. Therefore, just install the new correct pump. And by correct, that is determined by what belt setup your running. If you are running regular old school v-belts you want a 70’s-80’s pump. If running the wide single serpentine belt system, you want a 90’s pump. Known as reverse rotation.

Ok I am going to muddy the water. There are some engines that use a flat belt(serpentine style) the same way a v belt is used. So it could still use old style pump.

While I'm sure I could change the impeller on a water pump, I would always question it's longevity.
New ones don't cost that much for the piece of mind.
I don't even go for part store rebuilds, on water pumps.
