Question....Ive had my 78 K5 for quite some time but am finally able to put some money into it. I just aquired a brand new set of 37" tires and was wondering how high I will need to lift my K5 to accomodate such a tire. Also what lift recomendations do ya'll have. I spend most of my time out in the open desert as oposed to the rock crawling trails.

It depends on weather you want to hack the sheet metal. You could put those on with NO lift, but there wouldnt be much fender left.

I believe a 6" lift will give you enough room with out cutting. You may have to bend back or cut off the inside edge of the rear front fenders. I had to do this to keep the 35's from rubbing at full turn with a 4" lift. Since mine is a DD and occasional wheeler I like to keep the sheet metal stock.

Im running 38s with about 4 inches of lift and some fender triming

Seems odd you wouldn't have stumbled across this by now....

Your question was being asked about 10 times a week until we created that little gem. ;)

wouldnt 6 inches of lift create too extreme of and angle for the driveshafts??? I have 3" of lift in my truck and the heads of some of the driveshaft bolts have been sheered off. My opinion is the trade the 37s for 35s on craigslist or here and go from there. :D

I am clearing 37's with 3" of lift and some fender trimming.

Thanks and yes the t case is clocked flat but not in the picture above. I added a 1" body lift when I clocked it but the picture above is with no body lift.

not to hijack someones thread but have you had the clearance problem that my truck has had? the driveshaft bolts heads have been sheared off a little. :doah:

I don't have any sheared bolts but a few on the front have hit the rocks and mushroomed a little.

thanks for all the posts! i think the 4" lift with some trimming should suffice...and if not might step it down to some 35's I really wanna keep the body as intact as possible. does anyone have any recomendations for a lift kit manufacturer... good or bad....
