never thought about it before. how long would it take to noticeimproper tire wear? say i needed a front end alignment or whatever... how many miles on a new set of tires would i have to go before i could visually see?

It depends just how bad your allignment is out of whack.. I have seen brand new tires on a S-10 wear to the steel in less then 6000 miles.. The fellow said he didn't want to waste money on an allignment.. Do you want to be that fellow ? 
Get a tape measure or some ribbon or something and check your toe in.
If its outa wack then adjust your tierod
If its not then start checking your ball joints (or kingpins)
The correct toe in depends on your tire size, im not sure the coorect specs tho, i know someone on here does.

depends on how bad and what is off. Toe is the biggest wearer on tires and can wear and be noticed very quickly if its bad.

was just curious as i realized i have put at least (no less than) 2k on my burb and it had new tires put on just after buying... so i was thinking if anything soon would be the indication somehting is awry. but i have seen no signs that it is bad yet
