How many Delco parts are made in China now?

Just bought three Delco TPI fuel pumps, every single one of them has "made in China" on the box.

Fuel pumps, plugs, and ignition modules are three of the most common "buy Delco" items, but I'm wondering at what point QC is going to start going downhill and Delco won't be an option anymore?

Anyone else gotten Delco stuff recently that was Chinese?

we buy TONS of Delco stuff thru work, I have not seen a single instance of quality going downhill..

I just bought a Delco reman alternator and was surprised to find it tagged as being remanufactured in China. Still looked great, same warranty, works great too, but still unsettling to me.

Yet...although I've bought at least one piece (a battery cable) that was obviously a far cheaper redesign than what the vehicle originally came with. It was at least made in Taiwan lol.

It's good to know the quality hasn't slipped, have you noticed if the parts were Chinese or not? I wonder if not all are.

haven't noticed.. I thought more where being done in mexico, than china...

So did I. It's a sad world when you are relieved to see Hecho in Mexico on your parts.

I assume more Delco manufacturing will migrate simply to remain cost competitive.

Theoretically where something is made is unimportant for reliability, it's how it's made.

:haha: :haha: :haha:

thinking about it... :eek1: :doah:

AC Delco doesn't really make anything anymore. It's just a brand name. In days gone by, the name meant you were getting the same part that came on the car. Batteries and oil filters are both places where AC Delco isn't what it used to be. Delphi hasn't made batteries in what - 5 years? For a lot of parts, there is no better option, though. Something to look out for is the "AC Delco Advantage", which is a cheaper part than the plain "AC Delco".

You make a good point. I was not aware that the "advantage" meant anything. These are indeed "advantage" parts. Wonder if all of the advantage are Chinese parts, or all made in China.

Advantage who?

I suppose this is something we (collectively as the US) have done to ourselves...always demanding/buying the cheaper crap to save a buck. So we end up with cheap crap, instead of stuff that works like it did when the vehicle was built.

i know some (if not all) of their large starters are Chinese made now. i'm talking Mack/Detroit/Cummins size stuff though. i put on one one of my Mack trucks here at work and it lasted 2 months and never sounded right. replaced it with a mitsubishi and all is well.

It's just like Sears now offering you a regular Craftsman wrench next to a value-line wrench (Evolv). It lets them compete with the cheap brands. When Rockauto sells an "advantage" part for the same price as a cheapie and also offers a "regular" part for 50% more money, it makes you think the AC Delco price difference isn't just profit.

When I recently bought a TBI fuel pump I did some brand research. The past it has always be Delco first, but lately I noticed people complaining more about them. Seems to be linked to the China thing.

I ended up with a Bosch pump which was labeled as made in Brazil. :dunno:

I try to buy nos delco parts from ebay. That way I;m sure the part is US. It takes a lot of time and work to find usa delco parts.

Hey there, I know this is an old post but I'd like to reply. I work for an automotive shop in South Carolina and we use WorldPac daily for our OEM parts. Delphi has always been a good brand and I try to use it whenever I can. In the past year, however, we have had some serious problems with the quality of their parts. It started about 4 months ago with a 2006 Mercedes E350 misfire. We found 3 coils had gone bad. Ordered 3 delphi coils (part number gn10235-12b1) from WorldPac (also replaced all spark plugs with OEM) and installed parts. 2 cylinders were still experiencing a misfire that we traced back to the coil: the ones we had just installed: Delphi. These coils were made in Brazil. We ordered another two locally from Advance Auto. They were also made in Brazil and they also were bad right out of the box. We had Advance Auto send us two of their aftermarket (which is also probably made in china or something, but we were hopeful) coils and they fired fine. We sent the customer on the road. However, I had sold the Delphi as a better-than-aftermarket option because I really believed that they were. Four bad coils right out of the box from Delphi. So anyway i just chalked it up to a bad batch.

About 2 months ago, we were working on a 2004 Tacoma and it was experiencing a bogging on acceleration which we thought may be related to a bad MAFS. So i ordered a delphi MAFS and there was no change in operation (it turned out to be a weak fuel pump), however, that MAFS right out of the box was coding a P0101 for a circuit issue. We removed it and reinstalled his old one and there were no codes. We had to send it back anyway, but it was definately coding up immediately. That part number was a AF10133.

Fast forward now to about two weeks ago we had a 96 caprice towed in for a no-start. No fuel pressure and he had recently had a friend install a cheap aftermarket pump. We sold him a new OEM Delphi pump, AC delco fuel filter and relay because we knew that it is much better than aftermarket. At least this is what we have believed about Delphi for so long. Installed all the parts and everything runs well. The vehicle came back in last week for a no-start again. We checked and there was fuel volume being pump but the fuel pressure was very low. We removed the pump to installed a warrantied pump and found that the black feed hose in the assembly was mushy and had split down the center. As if it wasn't made for fuel systems. I checked the box and sure enough, it said made in china. That part number is HP10014.

At this point, I have thrown my hands up. No longer can I say that Delphi is quality. Whatever they are doing in china, its not good. They must be cutting cost on labor AND part quality. I don't think that hose is rated for a fuel system and we will see. I am forced at this point to use a warrantied Delphi item given the circumstances, but if this one fails as well for the same problem, Im now going to be in the hole for something I had convinced a customer was better than aftermarket. Now it seems that even our OEM crap is "aftermarket". We can't get away from it.

This is all a huge side bonus of the GMs bailout. They shifted the debt to the smaller guys, and that was impossible for them to absorb. It also does wonders for crushing unions.

I wouldn't be surprised if even the Made in USA stamps are made in China now days unfortunately.
