Cages

So after looking at the hardcore cages I see on this thread I guess it's better to have one built, or custom one myself. I had orgininaly planned on buying one from http://www.eoronline.com/store/blazer.shtml but they now look a little lacking, compared to these on this thread. I don't know a shop in NJ to have it done, and I don't have a heavy duty enough welder to do it myself. I need to plan this out for next year.

Do you have a welder? Even a junker Cambell Hausfield will work fine for this. As far as welding it to the frame, a stick would be nice, flux-core is sufficient, but the right bolts will work fine. Cages are a one use application. Granted, light rolls that do nothing more than scratch the paint are fine, but if you bend any of the cage, you need to replace it, so the bolts aren't going to receive repeated abuse.

.125" is 1/8". Use flux core wire if you are worried, as it has a higher penetration.

A 135 amp machine is plenty for .120" wall tube. Even my floor plates are only 3/16"...

Cegusman, I think your cage is awesome, but how much does something like that cost?

about 160 feet roughly so far but no where near finished. will guess I will have 220-250 when finished

I have about 70ft in my 8pt cage sofar. That is without rear spreader bars, belt bar, & windshield bar which are all planned at some point. Total with that will be about 90ft. I also may turn it into a 10pt cage when I add a rear seat again so that would be 100ft.

Thanks for letting me jump in with questions.

Two more - How do you get the 20' sticks home? I've got my DD pickup but I have a snug top on the bed and the Blazer.

And - I've got a rear seat and hardtop still on (probably will stay on) - The main hoop generally has a belt bar or other cross support. How do you access your rear seat?
