ok, just another thing to prove my Dad wrong, since he seems to think that the Blazer will fall apart since it's about to roll over(100,000). So....I know there's plenty of high mileage 4x4's. Rebuilds-how many miles did it have when you rebuilt? Did you rebuild before something went wrong, or after?

140,600 as of yesterday on a 1990 K5. Tranny was rebuilt, don't think the engine was but I'm not sure. I bought it with 120,000 on it last August. Thing runs like a top, and has since I bought it. No smoking, no funny noises, drives like new.

BONDO WILL FIX ANYTHING!!!

186,000 Miles on the original motor, tranny, and transfercase. I haven't had to change out virtually anything on the old girl since I got her that was related to miliage.

I'm not easy on her, but she still gets me around everyday, and doesn't complain one lick

224,000 on '87 K5. Bought it used with 60,000 on it in 1993.
Engine never apart, valve seals leaky so a little puff when it starts. About 160-165 psi on all
cyls. NP208 and the 700R4 both had several failures so installed NV4500/NP205 5years ago.
Engine still smooth and quiet. BTW, many of those miles with heavy trailers.
Starting to see body rust, need to git after it.

My neighbor had an 86 with 250,000 miles when he sold it. The only reason he sold it was it needed a tranny and he found a 91 in perfect condition with the exact same paint job as his old one.

Well, this probably isn't what you are looking for, but my '87 Jimmy only has about 75,000 original miles on it. Soon to have the engine rebuilt and the TH350 is virtually brand new. It was dropped in last summer. I only paid $3500 for the truck. Tell your dad that a Blazer will never die!! HAHA

My 71 has 72,906 on the everything but the motor. It came with a 305 2bbl and had a 79 350 4bbl when i got it. That was burning more oil than gas, and finally went in september so I had a 355 built, that has about 2K on it since november

I don't buy anything til it has a 100k on it. By then if anything breaks I can't blame it on my driving, but when it breaks I make it stronger.....

Blood, sweat, tears, and lots of money is what keeps my K5 alive.

1988 K5 350 TBI/w700r4 169,000 just now have a lifter ticking(damn its annoying) but other than that she runs great..no tranny work just basic maintainance and have the tranny fluid pumped out and changed every so often..

I don't know the miles on my blazer the od hasn't work for a while .But the 305 I have has been in three vehicles before the blazer and was rebuilt over 7 years ago all the miles have been hard.If you keep up on the maintanance it will last.My '75 buick Lesabre has over 200,000 miles on it all original.Still runs great.Brady

104,075 on the 350 with no rebuilds at all. Still running strong and no signs that it needs a rebuild. I'm starting to save for new Vortecs and a stroker rebuild.

Wait, it must really be 110,000 miles because the odometer didn't work for about a year.

What the heck!...Drive it like gas is $0.50/gal!!!

155,000 on my 80(350) when the head gasket blew and 156,000 on my 83 when the camshaft went on the 305. So you got at least another 50,000 to go.lol

70 Pontiac has 201,000 miles and the motor just lost oil pressure.
79 K5 (loaded) has 270k or so on the body and everything including the A/C works. Original motor was replaced at 190k with a less than perfect rebuild. I just put in a crate last summer. I know the tranny has been rebuilt 3 times. uses 1 pint of oil every 3k
75 K5. Don't know the history of but It has a rebuilt engine in it and about 220k or so on the body. Bad clutch on the A/C but it still has freon in it. Previous owner said the A/C was working 2.5 years ago. I just rebuilt the tranny and it needs a new chain in the t-case. Does not appear to have ever been appart. Uses 1 quart of oil every 1000 miles. Never smokes.
The way I look at things is this. You cannot buy anything new that is in the size class of the K5 for less than 30k (Tahoe). The payments on that would be an easy $400 a month. The parts for the K5 are cheap and plentifull. There is nothing that can't be repaired on the truck that would ever exceed what you would pay for 3 car payments except the engine if you had to replace it. If you can do the swap yourself then even that could still be done in 3 payments. A brand new crate motor can be had for $1200.
Screw the car note. Yes you will reach a point where you will have several things fail close together but once they are repaired then you will have 100k worth of trouble free miles. I wouldn't think twice about jumping in either of my K5's and driving them on a 4k trip. Both are extremely reliable now. For all intents and purposes both have been gone through end to end and have less than 30k on the driveline parts. The 79 I have about 6k in totoal including tires new engine and rebuilt tranny. It is getting a newer clip installed some day and a paint job to freshen it up and make it appear newer than it is. The 75 I have $2600 in total but it's a beater.
Keep up with the general maintance and put a tranny cooler on it and you should get an easy 50k more (if tranny is good) before you need anything major.

I have a 146k on my 90 and it still works great. I am going to drive it till I break it then put a big block in it
