if you hadnt noticed, the title of this thread is "how many of you have rebuilt an engine" not "how many of you can piece something together that sorta runs."

With good machine work , cleanliness , and attention to detail it will run great . I have done that one before .

And I have also put some together in worse conditions as well . Which ran well too .

Got one sitting all fresh and machined to put together when the project truck stops blocking my garage :thumb:

bunch 'o Cats, Cummins and Detroits.

This was always one of my fav old engines

i have helped with a full rebuild but by myself i have only done the top half.:D

oh man. see what happens when we dredge up a thread that we killed such a long time ago? somethings are better when they're not revived. :D

I have rebuilt a few sbc's, And almost every agricultural diesel or gas engine made. My newest projects include a 454 for my tow vehicle, And a 466 John deere 6 cylinder that will be 632 cubic inches and 2000 hp when finished.

Yes, superchargers are only on 2 strokes. thats an 8v-92.

I am involved in tractor pulling, And on many accasions i have to pull against old olivers with a similar setup. Just not quite as big.

Right on. This ones no where near 2000hp, it came out of a seizmic exploration buggy. it got some military spec injectors.. It'll give ya 2000ftlb all day no problem.......but not 2000hp. This motor actually seized up solid during a job, with the vibrator pad down. OK screwed right....nope that engine being a 2 stroke and so powerful, started up again with full throttle stayed running to get that big hydraulic pad up off the ground so they could drag it out. Wild.

It came outta one of these, not this one but one just like it. That big pad under the belly lifts the whole unit off the ground for siezmic testing. engine failed with the tires off the ground. That whole machine is hydraulic, hydrostatic drive, full hydraulic steering from and rear, hydraulic winches..... everything.

Wish i had those tires on the blazer along with that awesome sounding detroit

killer machines...when they work. they got crab steer function as well. Don't let the pic fool ya, those are 66" firestones.

A detroit is considered naturally aspirated with a roots blower on them. Only when they have a turbo on them, are they considered blown. They will run with out the blower, but not very good. Hey demon have you ever lost any quill shafts in the cold up north?

That there is 100% true. and yes, but not necissarilly due to the cold, more to the fact that they've been old neglected POS relics. I've got a 1/2 dozen of them in my punch drawer that I've turned into different sized drifts.
