i am still wearing my cheapo gloves i got about 2 years ago. and when im grinding or cuting i got some hobart weldin glove i got for $15
I only wear gloves when I'm welding...and I've spent 40+ hours a week for the last 20 years working with steel. I can't stand nitrile gloves, and will wear the cheap leather work gloves when I'm working with stuff I know is sharp. Other than that it's bare hands.
My hands are pretty tough now...and if that kind of work isn't what you normally do I can totally understand the need for gloves. OTOH there is only one way to get your hands to toughen up.

I do the same.Depending on what I'm doing, I'll use either Mechanix or surgical type gloves.

and though the dress code is relaxed for us geeks, it's still
to show up in oil-stained jeans and with black hands =))OTOH there is only one way to get your hands to toughen up.
