Saginaw front cv flange. I believe its called the centering yoke. I shattered mine today with only 16/35-15 inch boggers.... I wasn't even in that big of a hole. about 1 foot of thick muck and about a foot of water on top. I shattered it into many pieces and ruined the u joint too.

here is a link to the part.

will post some broken parts pics tomorrow. the bad part about this is that it crushed my exhaust about 1/3 the way down, put a dent in my floor boards, and bent my shifter rods for my 205. this was only the third hole I went in too. :dunno:

Most people lift their rigs and never remember to "clearance" the stops on them and then they bind up and they WILL eventually break.

The 3R joints at the CV are significantly stronger than the 1310 joint at the axle, my guess is that something just went wrong in the joint or something bound up. Strength-wise, the t-case side is stronger as of the late 70's.

I always considered my front shaft on my tow rig safe too but I broke the joint at the pinion end a couple months ago wheeling in the snow. 37's, open diff, plenty of boost. Should've had chains instead of throttle :doah:

Broke one on my 1350 cv front shaft. Was properly limit strapped so not to over-droop/bind. Happened during a front dig maneuver.
