How many spent $6500 on their 8" lift

I figure that i ll have about 30K into this by the time im done.:D and thats ok with me its better than a new truck.

i want you to show me where you can get a 1 Ton CV drive shaft with 1350's for under $500.

PS. and it does you no good telling me that you got rims for $50. Yes i am not a dumb ass. i know that 15" STEEL rims are cheep. But thats not what i wanted.

Ok lets see. For 30K you could have a reliable dd nissan or haonda that requires very little gas and cheap insurance payments. You could spend the other 25k and make your truck an unstopable wheeler. You could big block it, 1 ton it, double t-cases, and 4-link it.

Yes, you can get a 1 ton cv shaft with 1350's for under $500. Local driveshaft shops will do it for a lot cheaper if you let them have your old yokes. I know that for a fact.

You could have done a little better research before you bought some things and saved a crap load of money. It seems like you wanted new everything. And while there are somethings that need to be brand new, not everything does. Steel braided brake lines are great to have but front and rear should cost you no more than $100. You bought u-bolts from procomp? I bought u-bolts for about half as much as any lift manufacturer sells them for at a local truck parts store. They had the right size u-bolts in stock and just cut them to length.

You were correct in saying most people dont realize how much money you can spend in this sport. But on CK5, pretty much everybody has a good knowledge of how much you spend. We have all been there done that. I bought my blazer, installed a new engine, upgraded the fuel injection system, put on a lift, 8-lug fronts, etc.... and the whole thing only cost me what you have into your lift alone. From what you have listed, my componentry is just as beefy as yours, should last the same length of time, should perform in relatively the same manner, and cost a fraction of what you paid.

I dont really care how much you spend on your truck because thats your decision not mine. But when you post up a post that sounds like you are complaining/bragging about how much you put into your lift, I have to tell you that you could have accomplished the exact same thing and even better for a lot less money. Just think about it.

Could you tell me where to get 15x10 8 lugs steel wheels for $50 each? I shopped around and this is half of the lowest price I found.

true-er words were never spoken. Even people who bargain hunt and do their own labor don't get out of this hobby cheap... they just dumped in a little less than the rest of us. I don't know how much Ive spent on my rig in the last 5 years... $20k wouldn't surprise me, neither would $25k. Who knows. I don't. I have the expensive parts taken care of with respect to upgrades (1 tons, HADs, engine/tranny/tcase) so the way I figure its "all down hill" from here. I ain't done spending, but the number of $1k+ mods I am looking to do is, well... non existant. ;)

Tim has 15x10 8 lugs for 250 for 4 shipped to your door!! :thumb: as soon as I can come up with the cash, thats where im gettin em. Just when I thought I was getting ahead bam heater core goes out in the car. GRRRR!

...i have between 2K and 2500 in my rig... TOTAL. That is getting the truck, cage, D60/D70, crossover, hydro, 38's, beadlocks, winch, suspension, and on and on and on... Its your money, but I think that you should shop around for your parts, and start trading more parts too...

It sounds like you only bought what you wanted and thats all that matters. If you look around theres always a better price. But do i want to waste all my time looking for that bast deal to save 10 dollars. No because my time is always getting taken away to do other things. Like work Ask tim hes been pretty busy since he started selling on here. I dont like to spend all of my time looking around for the rock bottom prices. I seems that some people do and thats fine but not everybody wants to do that. I would like to see some pics of your k5 when its all done.

Good luck with your build,

OK. You really need to get in touch with reality here. What you say is true and I agree. Its pointless wasting time to look around to find a part for $10 cheaper. When I say "a part" I mean 1 part. But when your putting on a lift like this guy did, you arent just buying 1 part, you are buying a bunch of different parts. Of course finding deals on a bunch of parts will take more time than just 1 part, but instead of saving $10, you will save $10 here, $50 here, $25 here, another $80 there....and so on and so on. After its all done, you may have spent 3 more hours of your time looking for better deals, but may have also saved a few hundred (and in 1crzy88's) case, a few thousand dollars. Like they always say: "Time is money."

GREG'S 5 SIMPLE OBSERVATIONS ABOUT K5s and $$$$:

1. Nothing is ever as cheap as you think.

2. There are people here who will tell you THEY can always do something cheaper than you. They may be right, but they still suck for pointing it out.

3. Time IS money. Time spent searching for junkyard treasure is still an expediture.... and you can't get that time back either.

4. Most of the old-timers here will read your story and understand exactly how you feel. Most of us have already been there...dizzied by the realization of how quickly the costs can spiral away from you.

5. Misery loves company. Welcome to CK5! :D

I just wanted to add that i am nether bitching nor

bragging about how much money I spent. Ya there is a few places that I could have saved a few $100. But like in the case of my tires, 1 I wanted brand new ones, 2 I bought them from a friend who works at a local tire shop where I don’t ever have to wait to rotate or balance them and they have extra tires there for me when my need replacing (Trail hazards:D ). And like I stated before sure I could have saved $$ in buying things used, but I wanted new. So I paid for new.. I don’t mind…yes eventually i am gioing to be going the dual T-cases i almost am all one ton... well i guess im 3/4 ton right now. But untill i find a D60 for the right price, 3/4T will have to do. Good new though i ordered my HAD from Jess today... got it for $450 shipped:) . so that saved me $50 althought i still had to pay $200 for the BRAND NEW one one that is in my truck now (non CV) it rattles like a bitch. Can't wait. Get it in 4 days. will post pics when i get it. Have to be easy on the one that s in there now.

Troy

Ps. I don't want any of you all on here to think that i was bragging or any thing like that. i simply wanted to share my experence with you all and give us something to talk about. :)

PPS. And for the guy with the yellow truck (sorry forgot your name) not trying to bash, but i have more into my stero than you do in your whole truck:grin:

Good luck finding a D60 for the right price. That may be the one thing that almost everyone has to fork over $1000-$1500 for. I have been looking for a good deal on a D60 for about 2 years now, and havent had any luck. But then again, I cant afford a $1000 front axle, so I gues I have no other option than to just keep looking for that perfect deal. As for the driveshaft, im more than confident you will be highly impressed with the quality of that shaft. HAD makes some seriously nice stuff.

Tru dat!!! :cool1: I've got one of their "pimpy" rear shafts (complete with NP205 ebrake conversion) and now I'm just waiting to see if I can WIN a front one......

you know, a "F-R-E-E-B-I-E"..... [/Monster Garage]

:D

Yo

Ya got my HAD drive line the other day and HAVE to give prop's to Jess... these are sweet. I know about the D60, might jsut have to by a whole truck and swap my axles out. We'll see... and i haven't posted any pics yet cuz i haven't got my front drive line so no action shots yet... and don't want to look like a pu#$ with the street shot, you know. But if you all would like to see it as is now i can try to post up tonight, but you have to remember that this is stage one. Still have a long way to go.

T

PS. the reason for no front drive line is that i am looking for a cheep 205 to put in stead of this stupid 208. Don't want to have to mod the front D-line when i already have to do the back.:D
