Only one I broke catastrophically was in my 64 C10 dropping the clutch in reverse. Broke the case nearly in half. Would have been whatever was the standard 3 speed manual trans at the time. I burned up a TH400 a month after I pulled out the trans temp gauge because I wanted to redo it. Ran a trail in Montrose and overheated it because I didn't have temperature monitoring anymore.

Mitsubishi manuals are my nemesis.

Probably 3 dozen between an Eagle Talon TSI and a Galant VR-4. Averaged about a month of good driving per trans...

Shortest time was less than a mile before it puked its guts out... drove for 8 days completely empty of fluid and short second gear, found 3 exit holes when I pulled that one...

Blew a TH-350 in my '82. Replaced it with a reman. Got about 50k on it and broke the case at the adapter. Broke 2nd gear in half in my Deuce and a half, rebuilt it myself. Rebuilt a few sm465s that were just old, not broken yet.

I think you forgot 1.

Me wow, lets see 3 in this rig, one in my first blazer, 2 in my chevelle, 1 in my le mans, 1 in moms plymouth. I think that's it.
None in any work vehicles?

That would be surprising to me.
:D

I haven’t broken parts per say, but in dodge diesels
I’ve smoked 3 clutches before I went to a full “race” clutch, and I smoked the 68rfe in my mega cab. That was my most expensive fix. $7k for a full billet rebuild. She still holds though so that’s a plus

Well I don't think it's fair to call it parts killer when you have been driving for 40 years and you never bought new, so original condition unknown.
But...
My most expensive and biggest trans was my 10 speed in the freightliner.
It was supposed to cost around $6500, but I found a shop that had the mechanic doing jobs on the side and the transmission for $2500 no paperwork but he gave me his word for a year warranty, 3 years later I got no problems.
I installed with my friend so no cost there.
Broken a few transmissions and toasted a few as well.
Th400 in my 75 wagoneer, had a bad angle on the cv shaft and it broke, whipped up and broke the case and dumped blood on a snow run.
Th350 in my 79 van, revved the engine and dumped it in 1st with 12 guys inside and broke the slip yoke in the tailhousing and dumped blood on the snow on new year's eve.
Broke the bellhousing on a couple th350 4x4, and 2 tailhousings all on the same blazer. 4 instances total, also fried the clutches on a 5th transmission after I drove it home with the fluid in it.
Roasted 3 th350 in my 78 monte carlo.
Had to go home in reverse every time.
I have stripped a few 10 spline sm465 output shafts and couplers and destroyed an np203 tcase.
I have fried a few clutches but only one new one within a few months from rowing gears in a mud pit, back and forth until I finally got out, on the way home pieces of metal and springs were falling out.
The rest was just normal wear, little faster than the average guy but still few years per clutch.
I have destroyed a couple of Peugeot manual transmissions.
I am in the process of opening up a 2003 Mitsubishi eclipse gt automatic transmission which just suddenly quit 6 months after a rebuild including a new updated pump. That was the same symptom before the rebuild and the pump had just broke.
:dunno:
That's not too much is it?

I am saying 3.
Never had one leave me stranded, they always got me home.
The 3 speed car type manual that was in my '68 C10 when I bought it. Too many teenage moments made some bearings start to whine.
My '90 Jimmy had an unknown number of miles on the 700R4 trans when I bought it with 264K on the odometer. It looked very original when I pulled it, like no paint on it.. It had zero hold back when I got it, and the torque converter started vibrating terribly after a couple of years. This was preceded by disconnecting the lock up wire 2 months earlier due to vibration when locked.
Replaced it with one out of a "cash for clunkers" truck that cost me $150. It went about a year before it tried to keep the converter locked full time.. like even at idle stopped.
:haha:

One of the work cars blew an engine, under warranty taken to the dealership, 2 months later they call "Uh yeah we had a problem, We have a new transmission ordered and being shipped, it will be a couple more weeks." So they didn't line up proper and on assembly some damage was done and the torque converter wasn't fully set in place and they bolted it up. So now we have a car with 80 thousand miles but a new engine and trans. Sweet other than the time it took. They did not want to call me and tell me. My response was been there done that. They really didn't like me when I told them so it took 2 months to do 3 days at most of work? They then only called our fleet manager because they didn't want to talk to me anymore. ; )
