I've seen many trucks without them, but they never leave the pavement--take one off road and flex it good,or get a little air,and the tranny bell will crack--it is nessasary--I have similar "rods"on my diesel that go under the motor mount pads to the inspection cover under the flywheel--but somebody put a 2wd case TH400 in it evidently, because it has a tin cover instead of the cast aluminum one,and there is no place to bolt the rods too.I hope my tranny doesnt crack, but I dont go off road or get it airborne very often, and the NP208 isnt as heavy as a NP205 is,so it should live.
I noticed on the 305 motor I took from an 86 van for my 79 C10 had a triangular shaped steel plate between the block and the drivers side motor mount plate--anyone know what the hell they put only 1 of them on for,and what it does?--I left it off, never had seen one used before--maybe its a "van only"deal?? Its got me baffled! /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif
