Just kidding. I think Steve is onto something. It would work, just like weighing a Circle track car. I would agree on the 300 pounds.

just took the top off my 75 i had two guys help me but i think we could have gotten away with just me and another i would guess 289#'s

Ok, Well, I guess you guys are right. i have never had the oportunity to take my top off yet. I can afford a soft top, and my gasket seals are painted so I am affraid if I do take my roof off I will have to replace my gaskets. i cant afford any of that becuase I am putting every dime into the lift and tires right now. I just thought that it was 140 to 180 becuase thats what skyler said. This is sounding like the price is right, i am affraid you have all over bid so I am going to go with 1$ Bob. Just kidding.

300LBS? Nah, I just seems that heavy when your lifting off the truck from chest height. Once its off it doesn't feel like more than 298!!!!!!!1
Never lifted the half top off the wifes 79 but I'll tell you the top on my 75 is pushing 300lb. It's all I can do to remove it by myself. I'm no small guy either. I weight 215lb.
As for 86 and his painted seals. GOOD NEWS! The new LMC catalog list the half top seals (there are 2) and since you only need the one it will be around $30 for the seal that got painted. The seals for my 75 for the two headers and the windows and filler peices $400! I think I'll strech them another winter LOL.

I have a 73 convert. I lift weights quite a bit. Takes me and one other guy to do and still damn heavy. I would guesstimate about 280lbs. for the full convert

Me and and buddy took mine off and I'm gonna guesstimate approx 272.78 lbs. hehe Dunno, but that sucker wasn't as heavy as I expected. It was just awkward to handle.

we all want the numbers but we're all waiting for someone else to weigh their top! Mine is coming off soon, if no-one else has weighed theirs yet I'll weigh mine and post the results (for a moderate one time fee of course

Maybe this weekend, Steve and I can do the Walmart scale thing. It should give a good idea how much. This would only cover the 76-91. Still be nice to get the other tops weighed and post the results somewhere for future reference.

I did weigh my half top with sliding glass right after this...but never did post the weight in this thread. Mine was 188 lbs. I weighed half the top on a bathroom scale, multiplied by 2.

Wow, this brings back memories! Never did weigh just my top but my Blazer was right at 200 lbs. lighter with the top removed (off a '90 with sliding windows). A while back I cut up this top and posted pictures of the insides.....there is definitely more than just a layer of fiberglass in these.
I read the old posts were people were saying the tops weighed 300 lbs. but they could take them on and off with one person. I may not be a body building but know enough about weights to say that 300 lbs. in a large awkard package would require a MAN to lift on and off a K5.

Bringing back this 22 year old thread. Looks like it was BTT'd in 2010. Last summer I rigged up a hoist for my top using a Harbor Freight electric hoist and some rope and pulleys. Works great. This summer though I want to install some kind of an attachment point on the wall to take the weight off the electric motor when it's stored all summer. I wanted to see how much load was on the motor so I placed a scale I use for weighing deer between the top and the hoist.
Came in at about 213 lbs.
This is, of course, if the 4 sets of pulleys I run the rope through provide no mechanical advantage and the full load of the top is on the hoist...which I believe is the case.
