I Couldn't agree more /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif

I think I'm over $20k, (not including the trailer and tow rig that are dedicated almost completely to that) you can't tell, neither can I, and between buying the trailer and all the other crap I bought this year, I've spent nearly half that just this year.

Grr.....makes me sick. I wish I knew when I started, what I know now. /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

Hmmm... lets see. The rig that currently runs and I drive the most right now is the '84 K5.
3728BlueBlazer.jpg

Traded a '78 1/2 ton 4x4 truck for it. I was into the truck maybe a grand.

Traded for 3/4 ton axles (14 bolt FF and 10-bolt front) which I put under it, and I sold the 1/2 ton 10-bolts for $300.

Traded off the old rims/tires.

Paid $100 for 15x10 8-lug Chrome spokes.

Have about $200 into the 35" BFGs on it now.

Traded for the light bar.

About $350 into the winch and bumper.

Traded for the 4" lift to replace the 2" lift.

Put the 350 motor out of it into another Blazer I kept a 454 out of.

Sold the TH350 tranny out of it for $150.

Traded the 27-spline NP205 and adapter out of it for: a set of 4.56 gears for a 60 and 14 bolt and a set of low tread 37" Swampers.

Kept an SM465 and NP205 out of a '73 K5 I parted out (I made $60 profit and kept the 465/205 for free on that deal)

Clutch $100

Flywheel $100

Motor: Traded to get a SB400, tore it down to a shortblock. Used all used parts I traded to get on the motor, except I bought a new gasket set and oil pump pickup tube. cash out... $100. Got the cam, gear drive, roller rockers, RPM intake, carb, headers all off other rigs/motors or through trades. Had the work on the heads done through a trade for two old motor cores.

I think I'm into it about $1500 cash value and a bunch of trading all said and done.

I have:
500 for the blazer
just under 2000 for 455, th-400, np203 and np205
400 bucks for 28 inch winter tires /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

oh, and these are canadian prices /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I think actual cash out of pocket I am probably in mine around 2 grand... that includes the D60/D70/4spd swap/cage/hummer rims/38's/etc... It was basically built from trading stuff...

GMC - around 4500 i would assume gonna jump to 7000 if i rebuilt motor, lift, tires and axle like i wanna
$750 to purchase
Blazer - 1100 on accessories/tires
$5000 to purchase

89 K5 - traded a 72 for it (cash value $1K) $1000.00
Engine rebuild (comp cams, ported polished) $1300.00
4inch lift (installed, no time, no shop) $1400.00
Two sets of 33x12.50 tires and wheels $1000.00
Exhaust $250.00
New Tranny (corvette servos, kevlars) $2000.00
New electrical $450.00
Misc parts (starter, alternator, batt) $600.00

Total $6200.00

And still waiting to do 1-ton and 38's, X-over, big block and cage and bumpers and winch and............

Damn this thing!

I've kept track of every dime I've put into every rig. Call it a sick fasination with Excel or something ... Everytime I look at the numbers, it just blows my mind. I use to answer that question when people asked, but the response I got was, "You coulda bought a new truck for that much!" They just didn't get it and I was getting tired of explaining.

The little stuff really ads up over time. My oldest rig (82) was purchased used in 85 for $9500. It's on its 3rd engine, 2nd trans, 2nd T case, 2nd set of custom built rims, 5th set of tires ... the list keeps going on like that, and I kept track of it all /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I probably have 5k in mine including purchasing the truck, but I could probably sell 2k worth of stuff that I have taken off.

Damn... where did I get the money?

I'm just getting started so nothing too impressive:

Bought 2 '72 K5's this spring: 3K
33's: 100
various gaskets, fluids, filters etc.: 150
Parts for the soft top: 90

still need:
engine swap
tranny swap
interior swap
axles (need to ditch 3.73's)
bigger tires
Winch

I figure about 3500-4000 for this and then I'll have a decent looking mild wheeler/camping hunting veh. for about 7K.....

And the green one sitting there waiting for me to spend 15K on it's tranformation from rusty '72 to kick ass truggy. /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif

The question is how long will all this $$$$$ and work take to sneak past the wife? /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

Just kinda makes you think back at what cudda been with so many people selling comparably equipped rigs for 4-5 grand. In hindsight they are on average about $10,000 under priced. /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif
Not that I would ever wanna sacrifice all the blood, sweat, and tears that has gone into (and will continue to go into) my current rig.

But at 16 grand so far and I can think of ways to spend about another 20k without batting an eye /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

Sure make me feel better to know I'm not the only one crazy enough to dump that kinda cash on a old heap like this. Misery loves company! /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif
