how much should i get my dshaft lengthened?

If you haven't done anything yet just ask the driveshaft shop where they want you to measure from and to and they will get it right for you. Not all driveline shops measure the same way so be sure to ask the shop that's going to do the work.

sorry avery. i just went out and measured a 12 bolt, don't have any 10 bolt rears and it was roughly 12.5" . a 14 bff is roughly 12" . i also measured a 10b front and it is almost 13". must be the beef of the 14bff that makes it look further out.

all measurement were from center of u-joint to centerline of axle tube.

Ehh, lost by 1/2"... the story of my life. I wish I had a 10b rear laying around still (I'm sure it's the same as your 10b front) but I could swear when I swapped from my 10b to my 14ff it pushed my rear d-shaft in a smidgen...

My factory 89 rear 10 bolt had a shorter "pinion nose" than the 14ff that replaced it.

i already did the swap, the rust line is where the driveshaft sat with the 10 bolt, where it is in the picture is where it is sitting now with the 14 bolt in the truck...

i have the 10 bolt sitting in the garage, tell me where to measure from on both axles and i'll clear up which is longer...

just measured, the 14 bolt is about 1/2" shorter... but the 10 bolts pinion angle was higher than the 14 bolt is now

and i would get a cv shaft made for it, but i plan to put a 205 with a sye in and don't want to drop a ton of money into a driveshaft that is going to get replaced eventually anyway

I wonder if 10b's changed through the years... and if they're different front to back...
My '85 rear 10b was shorter too...

Like other guys have said just drop the truck off at a d-shaft shop and they'll take care of ya'... when they finish take some pics and we'll see what they decided...

just find another 205 and swap the output shafts, no need to buy a kit for something that came stock in another truck.
