How much worse are 14SFs?

As for a 14ff being cheaper, they are until you factor buying wheels and switching the front to 8 lug if you are currently 6 lug.

Your correct, If the truck is 6 lug and you want to keep it that way then a 14sf is cheaper in the long run and plenty strong.

The original poster has a 8 lug 44 in the said parts truck with the sf14 and wants to run 39"x18 tires and Im sure the truck will need rims and such, but he sounded like he was looking/hoping for a ff14bolt and the 3/4ton parts truck has a 14sf already. I was saying the 14ff is cheaper if you just want to buy one on the side already out of a truck and i guess run it with the 8 lug 44 front so everythings 8 lug. I definately would not buy that truck just for an old d44 8lug front though.

I'm not sure if its a D44 front it looks similar to my D44 could be a D60? And yes the main reason for this is to go to 8 lug because my tires are mounted on aluminum 8 lug rims :). I'm gonna get these axles, weld up the rear spider and just beat em till they go :p: then I'll do a rebuild on a nice set of 1 ton axles...Do you guys think 4.10s will be enough with 39s if I plan on using a TH400 and np205 transfer with a 350 pushing hopefully near 400lbs of tq. at the crank...

The c-clip eliminator kits main purpose was so that when you broke an axleshaft while at 100 mph (drag racing, etc..) the tire/wheel/broken shaft wouldn't go flying through the air into the crowd and also make you wreck the car. It's NOT because the c-clips are weak or a normal failure point...think about it, what can hold more force: a metal retaining clip, or a press-fit bearing???

In normal off-road driving, if you do break a shaft it's at low speeds the issues listed above are not an issue...and of course it will take a lot to break a 14SF shaft.

BTW, I've seen a flanged D44 rear axle (ie. no c-clips) spit a tire/wheel/shaft assembly out of the housing when the bearing went bad.

I just picked up an 8 lug 10b front and 14b sf.

I know the 10 bolt front is no beast at all, but if i'm smart about it it'll last til I find a 60. Will the SF be able to hold up to 38's though?

as long as you aren't running some rediculous amount of HP and have a HEAVY foot, you will be fine.
