As for a 14ff being cheaper, they are until you factor buying wheels and switching the front to 8 lug if you are currently 6 lug.
Your correct, If the truck is 6 lug and you want to keep it that way then a 14sf is cheaper in the long run and plenty strong.
The original poster has a 8 lug 44 in the said parts truck with the sf14 and wants to run 39"x18 tires and Im sure the truck will need rims and such, but he sounded like he was looking/hoping for a ff14bolt and the 3/4ton parts truck has a 14sf already. I was saying the 14ff is cheaper if you just want to buy one on the side already out of a truck and i guess run it with the 8 lug 44 front so everythings 8 lug. I definately would not buy that truck just for an old d44 8lug front though.
. I'm gonna get these axles, weld up the rear spider and just beat em till they go
then I'll do a rebuild on a nice set of 1 ton axles...Do you guys think 4.10s will be enough with 39s if I plan on using a TH400 and np205 transfer with a 350 pushing hopefully near 400lbs of tq. at the crank...
