One of my wife's brothers has always loved Blazers, and has always wanted a '70. When his oldest son turned 16 he bought him an '89 to drive, but kept looking for a '70 for himself. He found one online that looks good (to me). However, he does not know a damn thing about cars. Anyone know if there is a service (or whatever) where you can pay someone to check over a vehicle for you?

Where is it? The brotherhood here might be able to help. I've seen time and again guys here go out of there way to help each other with similar situations.

But for a direct answer, I don't know of a service.

Agreed. Someone you "know", who also knows these vehicles in and out, is your best bet.

Absent of that, get a $hit ton of pictures, from every angle. You've worked on these and know what common problem spots to look for.

Also a video of it running and revving, with shots taken from all angles and under the hood. If the seller claims that can't be done, ask for audio over the phone. Even if the seller is an older person who doesn't know how to use video, there's no excuse for not letting you hear it on the phone.

Great points guys, I did not even think to see if someone was willing to help out. It's located in Denver, CO - near the Denver zoo. If anyone is willing/able, please shoot me a PM.

The brotherhood is the answer. If the vehicle runs most mechanic shops will take a look at a vehicle and point out any glaring issues that would require immediate repair. I have done this a few times on distant purchases. I have never paid more than $100.00, usually closer to 50. It saved me from one bad purchase.

Most people that have done just have a local mechanic shop check it out, which usually requires taking the vehicle to the shop. Obviously best if you can take it to your local trusted mechanic but if it's an out of state purchase that is not realistic.

A friend in the know is always the best bet, but any decent shop can do a pre-purchase inspection to find any flaws. The big issue on these is rust-and rust can hide in a lot of places. Buying an older car without a thorough inspection can be disastrous, no matter how good they look in the pictures.

Wow, there are tons of pics there, looks like a nice truck.

Only problem is the available hours to view it.

I work too much. It is Thursday night and I have 51.6 hours.

Quite honestly, there are several good looking 1st gens on CL in denver for half that price. If your BIL has his heart set on this one, hopefully he can get someone else to look at it, because I work 6 days a week. Or maybe if he can swing 20 grand on a truck, he could afford to show up and see it himself. I just can't swing banker's hours, let alone by appointment only. Good luck.
