I went to the auto parts store and tried to get a new filter for my 86 k5 and eveything they brought out was different then what I hand in my hand. So I assume this is not the original tranny for this truck. So how do I determine what I have? It is a 4 speed auto I assumed it was the 700r4.... It has 16 bolts that hold the pan on........Any help would be appriciated....

thanks

I just found this on the web......So I am certian it is part of the 700r4 family, but I guess someone must have swapped it out to the 4l60e.....Are these ones still A pos? What do you think about my symptoms??

today when I took it out the trans did not seem to want to shift out of 1st gear. I really had to wind it up very high before it would shift. Other wise when I wind it up really high and then let off it still does not shift, but it seems to go into like a stall and when I gen back into the gas it revs then engauges into 1st.....any ideas?

It does shift out of 1st if I tack it out and then it goes into second....

seems like something is sticking or something

Governor?

Oh, and the 4l60e is an electronically controlled tranny, the 4l60 is non-electronically controlled

what should I expect if I was to drop the valve body......Will there be a bunch of check balls and springs?

I think it is the 4l60e becasue there is like 4 electronic looking solenoids that I can see when the pan is off...

Does anyone have a diagram for he 4l60e internals??

thanks in Advacnce

is there a cable going from near where the dipstick tube goes into the trans up to the carb/TBI ?
is there a white 4 pin electrical connector on the drivers side of the trans case?

if yes, it is a 700R4

Some of the later 700r4s had the switches on the valve body all they really did was sense fluid pressure not sure of there purpose though.

mid 80's gm changed the shape of the filter so that might be it , i think 86still had the old style
